Beautimous! How does the soft top do with road noise?

The car is relatively quiet, and the better half also loves the noise it makes. It's quiet until you really push the pedal, and the sound at elevated speed is very pleasant and not as aggressive as a Ferrari or Lamborghini etc.

My Ferrari is much more excitable in the sound department.

Just came back from lunch today with Dave, and took him for a little ride in the Ferrari and he can comment on that if he chooses. Other 928 people that have heard my Aston singing seem to like the sound.. I'll happily take you for a ride if you're ever near the Bay Area, just let me know.

Great lunch with Richard (blau928) today in Carmel, and a fun follow up ride in his Ferrari 612 Scaglietti OTO.

We discussed quite a few topics, but the common themes that wound through the conversation related to how good the cars are that we have common interests in and, how qualified maintenance enhances the enjoyment of these cars regardless of the miles that we put on them.

The 612 that Richard has is nothing like the first 612 I drove two months ago. Richards car is tight and feels like a Ferrari should. It has a distinctively crisp sound and is much quicker and more sure footed than the one I drove. The difference is so profound that it seems the two cars could not have been the same model, yet they were.

Earlier we had discussed a few of the 928's we have been privileged to own. Both of us have put huge numbers up on several 928 odometers... We also agreed that the 928's we owned were not expensive to maintain and were great, trouble free cars. The trick is to have them worked on by people that know, understand and love them.

When you can find someone who works on the 928s out of affection, it almost doesn't matter what you pay because it's a labor of love.

For my part, I've never found anyone who loves my car as much as I do, so I had to learn how to treat her well by myself (and with the ongoing and invaluable assistance of all you folks).

Once again we find commonality. I live in a part of the country where there is little support for 928's available. Therefore I have to "do it myself" for the most part and get to do a bunch of "while you are in there" bits. I definitely love my cars more than any mechanic near me, but there are a whole lot of things that I will never attempt to do. Occasionally I can get Jim up here, but that takes him away from his business supporting the OB community.

Comes with the turf...

 

I couldn't own my car without this community! That's a fact. Jeff Spahn, flew out here on his own dime, and worked on my car for 2 days to get it running again. I owe Jeff big time!! Stan has offered, Sean too. I'd have gotten rid of it long ago but the other owners have kept me hanging around!

 

I started working on mine when I moved to a ranch in NW Wyoming back around 1999. The closest Porsche mechanic of any kind was either Salt Lake City (about 250 miles) or Portland OR (maybe 400 miles). So it began. I'd worked on Porsches before in the 70's and 80's, a 1971 914 (my first car) and a 1981 931, but I'd never worked on the 928 before moving it to Wyoming, that's when the gloves came off (actually, when they went on).

Since then I've moved it back to CA where there are lots of good folks around I could use, but none in it for true affection for the car. So I bought a lift and built a shop. Now, working on my car with the assistance of all the folks here has turned into a kind of therapy. I spend more time under my car than in it, but I kind of like it.

That silver 2014 Aston Martin DB9 was a car I looked at late last fall before buying the 911 Turbo Exclusive. See post 535 above...

I did not buy it because there was a small amount of damage behind the right front wheel that had been questionably repaired. It was otherwise a beautiful car that almost ticked all the boxes.

At a $40,000 discount to the Turbo, it was pretty good value...
