Well, a couple of years ago, I fixed up the engine of my wife's old Volvo. It had about 750,000km (470,000 miles) on the speedometer so the engine was not in the best condition. Those things do not need to cost a fortune. As I did all the work myself, I only had to spend money for the required spare parts which was clearly under $ 1000. Volvo spare parts made in low cost countries do not cost much. I expect the car to be on the road for another thirty years. I also did a small porting job to the cylinder head. The Volvo engine reminds me quite a bit of a the 944 engine.

"Your next car after the 928" ???
Took me a long time to figure that one out but I think, it will be a Mercury Grand Marquis or Ford Crown Vic, 2005 ----->
May have something to do with my age or the dreadful state of roads where I live, or both !!!
Test drove friend's Marquis last week, loved it.

What does DD stand for, drink driving, drug driving, dangerous driving? Assume it has something to do with top speed driving which is legal on german highways and used to be legal here in Sweden when I got my license but not anymore but the supervision by the police is very poor which I find great.

I drove my 928 from Landsharks ( Hamburg ) home , must have been 300 ? km German Highway. Rest of the route was Netherlands/ Belgium.
Got 3 German speeding tickets.

can imagine that too in France.... were is the time we drove to the South of France on the route soleil.... at 160 km/h average. Long gone.
Latest years , as we drove to our boat in Gogolin 4/5 times a year , at 135/140 km/h not one car passed us......not one.
I was once hold at a "peage" for speeding ... all silly paperwork just to hold me there for half a hour... to see again a lot of trucks i already passed long ago

I know that for sure there will NEVER be a Crown Vic, Caprice Classic or Merc Gran Marquis in my quiver of hydrocarbon burning or EV vehicles ;-)

Very mad that I didn't pull the trigger on a three pedal Ferrari 456 at the start of the pandemic that sat for quite a while at $50k. Thinking an AMG GT might be in my future at some point.

I think the Mercury Marquis is a find daily driver. Go for it 928nut! :-))) Better than my SAAB convertible probably, but not better than my 86' 900 SPG.

And if I told you how many Porsche parts and tools my Mercury Marquis (last model year produced) has hauled so my GTs would run, you might have a different opinion. :-)))

I also had a rusty, rusty, rusty Ford Pinto station wagon, so I know about driving a car that works, but nobody respects!
