Default new aluminium front belly pan

Replaced the stock - and rather beaten up after what appears 17 years of service (with my last weeks driving on "interesting" small country roads further helping to it's demise) - plastic front belly pan with a nice new aluminum one (thanks to Mark Anderson from 928 International and Pekka Valtonen from PVR-Service in Finland!).
I used 3 mm nuts and bolts (10 mm in length) to transfer the two (2) NACA ducts from the platic one (very easy to drill out the old rivits with a 3 mm dril bit). After checking before installation, I also decided to add a protective rubber strip (covered with duct tape, yes I know: not beautiful at all but I'm trying to be practical) over the high side edge of alternator couling duct, so to minimize any change of metal rubbing against the starter cable loom (which is right above it).

Looks good and drives even better!

Fixed emergency brake light switch. The switch got depressed too far and fell out of it's guide. Unfortunately, I discovered a marvelous butcher job on wiring in the emergency brake housing from some PO but will leave sorting out the repair for another day.

Started her up and listened for a while.

I've had intermittent power loss on my GTS, and a couple of weeks ago a no start that I couldn't track down. Seemed like fuel so replaced relays, but wasn't willing to risk going anywhere as I hadn't found anything to point the finger at, and I didn't want to risk getting stranded. Today I checked fuses, and although the fuel pump fuse looked OK from the top, it was obvious that it had run hot when I pulled it out. Put a meter on it and it was fine until I flexed it back and forth. It was obvious that it went intermittent when it got hot, and was turning pumps on and off ... I've now got the grunt back

Fuel pump relay is the most heavily loaded of the three vital relays for engine to run.

It supplies both fuel pumps plus O2 sensor, about 12A.

Heat suggests a resistive connecion, either at the contacts, or the relay base.

Yes ... that's what I thought too so I cleaned the relay socket contacts, and the fuse socket contacts with contact cleaner, and put in a new relay and fuse. The fuse socket seemed a a bit looser than other fuses when I compared them and so I'm wondering if that's the source of the problem ... it might be time to pull the CE panel and check every connection.

If the fuse contact was the problem, its socket would have overheated.... rather than the relay socket.

What did I do on my 928 yesteray,,,,,, well nothing really. I was busy with other things and it was pouring with rain all day. Not the best driving day. Admired it everytjhime I was passing near the garage :-)

Waxed it.

Drove it. (Damn, it is STILL scary!)

Waved at it.

Spoke to it.

Drove it.

Put it back in the barn with the cover on.

Replaced the gas filler boot, drain hose and clamp. Added a gas cap seal - the old one was AWOL.
