Drove it like I stole it. Redlined her in 2nd coming off the ramp onto I-35...ran her in 4th all the way to 90 a few times....gave that WOT switch a real good workout 5th gear got 10 seconds of play; just enough to make sure it still worked ...then back to 4th.. Moved the gas gauge a nice bit....idles like a jet now...its about 30 outside...it loves that oxygen rich cold weather!

Doing things right in the first time failed!
But the invoice is Porsche like, for the 14 little pieces.

It must be Porsche with platinium plating!

23nm The old gasket is burned away, don't use old hardware.

One long day on the autobahn and the stainless steel has the right rainbow colour.

This Xpipe and the Lomas one should have sex together, fitting is perfect! We need the best from both worlds.

Think Roger sells those too and they're on eBay. Just pushes out. I've done that in a couple of them to restore the horn function.

Installed previously ordered part-
snow melted-
nice piece-especially if you need a 3rd connection point on the positive battery terminal for an aftermarket accessory or a battery tender-

I guess the phatic cover does not go over it without modification. Not a show stopper.

Installed a Borla exhaust after polishing it to a high luster, as well as a Jager speedmount in my 84 Euro S

Much smaller thing: I converted my Blaupunkt Bamberg to use RCA cables to connect the Fosberg Amp as opposed to the weird stock wiring (which goes through that fader pot, what a mess). While doing so I noticed that on the 86 the wiring harness for headlight is just jumpered to the radio on line, is this normal? I would expect the lights on the radio to only come on when the headlights were on, unless the Monterey had them on all the time....

That's probably a radio dimmer wire so when the lights are on it dims the radio display since it would be night time...or are you talking about the main power wire for the radio being hooked up to the headlight wire.

Well I think it's supposed to just be the voltage from the dashboard lights and the radio does with it what it thinks it should do: Some radios would turn on lights for the buttons, others will change the screen from amber to green, others probably dim the bulbs. Regardless it looks like my 928S does none of these things, and I was wondering if this was just a factory wiring thing (that I can change; the lights for the climate control are literally right above the radio so I can tap in) or a hack (in which case the wire for the lights should be around somewhere)

It's not the main power wire, the wires seem to include (not in order):
Ground
Main power from key on
Memory power from 12 volt all the time.
Output to turn antenna amp/external amp on (on when radio on)
Light input (variable voltage from the interior lamps)

As a side note I checked to see if the antenna amps still work. On both my 944S and the 928 there is a wire running along with the antenna plug that needs to go into the output to turn on antenna amp. I verified these still work because with an ammeter I can see each one pulls 50ma when hooked to 12v. Some people wire these to main power (switched) which isn't bad but is a bit of waste but don't wire them to always on 12v or the battery will eventually be drained.

On the 928 the output to turn antenna amp is split: One wire goes to the antenna amp, and I think the other one goes to the pre-amp to turn it on. Nice, but not critical as the main amp power is coming off the +12v switched.

Hmmm… where to start. Since taking ownership of the 81 Euro we’ve done a little work. Jacked up car & dropped headers (PITA) and pulled the engine. Replaced both cam towers, tower gaskets, cams & lifters, including all “O” rings & front / rear gaskets. Replaced timing belt (again - long story), water pump, rebuilt tensioner & replaced all rollers. Pulled clutch, adjusted & replaced pilot bearing & clutch fork plastic cup. Pulled oil Pan & cleaned off 20 lbs of crap, dirt & grime. Pulled oil Pan mesh & donut and cleaned everything, then reinstalled with new cork gasket & new hardware. Replaced leaking steering rack with rebuilt from Roger with Delrin bushings & new bellows. Had to remove half-*** bump stop on driver side inner connecting rod and get a 4 wheel alignment. Replaced or repaired both power steering lines & hoses. Reinstalled engine and prepped & installed long pipe headers with all new hardware. Cleaned all grounds, soldered more loose connections and recovered wire than I can remember. Replaced faulty fuel distributor with newly rebuilt FD, measured pressures and tweaked air / fuel mixture using tail pipe sniffer. Dropped leaking fuel tank (outlet and patch leaking) and replaced with good used tank from 928 International with new in-tank screen & “O” ring. Dropped driver side door card to identify broken handle bracket - that’s gonna have to wait. I think that’s MOST of it… and not necessarily in order. Tomorrow is the shark’s road test encompassing six states over the next 3 weeks. Wish me luck!
