Took out the radiator and condenser last night to clean 27 years of gunk from the fins. Also replaced high and low side a/c lines. That was a job I don't care to have to do again anytime soon as there is very little space to work with. Also replaced all the o-rings and the evaporator. Hopefully by tomorrow night I'll have a very cold and working retrofitted a/c.

R&R the resistor pack. Now I've got ice cold air to combat the Las Vegas furnace type summer heat! Also getting her ready for another trip to 3rd coast in November.

Looking good!
What are you using to clean the tub? I've been casually chipping away (literally...) at the cosmoline on the rear cradle/crossmember for years.
Oh, and those nylon supports for the plumbing really are white. Mine look like little beacons contrasting against the black paint.

Otherwise Im using a sponge with the rough side on the painted areas, with oil-eater degreaser/soap, and water/car shampoo using my foam gun.

Pulled the front tires off old red to adjust the ride height...bad news...you can't do that on a 78. No biggy, PO had put the directional tires on the wrong sides (he had changed them the day l bought it, so they weren't driven on much)...so it wasn't all a loss. Cleaned the insides of all of the rims and checked things underneath, since this was the first time I'd had it in the air.
Otis wanted to know why we weren't spending as much time with trailer-crash-blacky (got the name after my wife found out the brakes didn't work while unloading it off the trailer...notice molding strip on garage is messed up...that is what finally stopped its runaway).
He thinks we should get it running, the others...not so much. Me, I'm kind of coming around to his way of thinking. Just for curiosity sake, it would be nice to see if it runs.
Washed old blacky, even though my wife said I hadn't driven it since the last time I washed it...lol. But damn it looked good afterwards. Oh, and I turned the hood struts right side up. PO had put them on up side down.
Brian.

I ran from Seattle to the Mount Rose highway summit in Nevada. 8,900 ft on a 97 degree F day is a test for any cooling system. We passed the test so ran it back home. I did receive a special invitation to come back if I desire but I told him I would just send the cash and be done with it. I figure it is a small price of admission to the Mount Lassen raceway. Lots of 300 lb obstacles darting across the highway for added amusement.

Replaced both window, sun roof and rear wiper switches on old blacky. All of the original ones worked, however the indicator images were worn off. Probably should have waited until today to do the change-over...since it was 94 degrees yesterday.

Started the long road to a strip down and new paint job.
Beginning at the front. Of the 10 studs that hold the front bumper on, only 5 survived round one. Oh my god....the corrosion I'm finding. Luckily its mostly fixings. You would have thought that with all the effort Porsche AG put into corrosion protection in these cars, they could have used stainless screws and bolts.......
I have a Euro S2 that spend 25yrs in UK wet weather, so I shouldn't be surprised...
I'm thinking of starting a thread of my own, much like many of you, but I feel there are so many good restorations going on, mine isnt going to be worth reading about. Guess I'll post some photos on this thread and see what sort of reaction I get.

Not exactly "today", but in the last month, I've taken mine on a 145-mile-each-way trip twice.
The local DZ has shut down, so if I want to fling myself out of a plane, I have to go to Racine to do it. Down on Friday afternoon to get a couple in, stay in the little "bunkhouse" then jump all day Saturday. DZ has a "if you are on the first load Sat morning, you get a discount all day" deal that's really sweet. Back Saturday afternoon/evening.
It's been said a bazillion times, but this is the nicest car for longer roadtrips that I've ever owned. By the end of Saturday, I'm sore & tired. The seats are very comfy, yet driving the car is "involved" enough that I'm not worried about falling asleep.
And for the Deputy:
It's a bit late, but there are stickers out there to replace the worn icons on the buttons.
I got mine from Nicole before she shut down, but I think they are available through someone else.

I've not taken mine on that long of a trip yet, but you are so right in that "involving" comment. It's comfortable, and yet I never feel like falling asleep like I do with my other vehicle (I hate that feeling).
I got my switch overlays from Jager Engineering.

You have one started that seems to have gotten some positive reaction. Keep that one going.
