Sure wish I had a rack too.

Well now that I got my seats back, and now that the paint is finished, time to finish up the details.

What follows was finished today but started a while ago...

Stripped door cards.

make repairs with gorilla glue (expanding polyurethane foam mostly) and fiberglass...

make aluminum inserts and flush foam covers for speaker holes...

Recover with black carpet, and Champagne vinyl (yes, chose vinyl OVER leather).

dye remaining grey-beige and chocolate brown bits to satin black...

Now it's late and my feet hurt. Been a long day.

Try hot water and some Comet/Ajax cleanser with a working sponge. Works a treat on oil filler caps that resist common household cleaners. Might work the same on the gas caps.

SS brake hoses and 33 bar regulator (replacing stock 18) on my '88 5-speed. Wow.

Along with Textar pads installed a while back, these new additions make it stop right QUICK. I wish I had done this a year ago when I was doing WOT runs many times a day. Hauling it down from 130 now is a bit less dramatic.

Logically, I know SS hoses don't expand so they should need less pedal movement, but I imagine a firmer pedal with these racy hoses, so I am still surprised by the softer feel of the brake pedal under normal braking.

Having access to my friend's shop and power bleeder made this a fairly easy job. A 19mm crows foot helps to R&R the regulator and counter hold the brake line nut as the ABS pump moves on its isolators. Removing the resonator hangers at the rear x-member would have made the rear hose install easier...but I didn't.

Realized I don't have a record of the last time the GTSs oil was changed, so it has probably been 3 years and 6K miles. Oops.

7.5 qts Torco TR-1 20W-50 and a new filter. Old filter looks good- three little pieces of schtuff probably leftover from the head scavenging porject install...

Pulled the cover off and rolled it into the workbay for some needed modification... That would be cutting the ziptie that has held the heater valve closed for pretty much the last ten+ years (except for coolant changes and a couple mountain trips). 40's this morning, and time for a cruise south for a while through the lava forest to roll out the flat spots on the tires left from sitting. Ran really sweet of course, climate control did its magic keeping the cabin comfy. I need to clean the windows better.

Might go grab some brats and grill them for afternoon football. Both local teams play at home this afternoon/evening.

Neighbor with a 996 needed some help swapping out a window regulator. Got to drill out a broken bolt, and used the inch-pound torque screwdriver.

Did I mention how well the car ran? Turns out it is fun to actually drive it once in a while.

Quickest, cheapest, most effective mod ever. Transforms braking, the rear wheels actually get hot on track now. Rear pads now last no longer than fronts.

Getting the 89 ready for 3rd Coast. Detailed the interior, renewed the state inspection sticker that was four months expired and installed a new radio head unit. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.

Default parking brake cable

I think I learned why the parking brake isn't working. Crud, this just became a longer project.

While the motor is out, one of a billion projects.... Installed S4 front suspension and brakes. Next up, steering rack bushings and motor mounts.

What is the downside of this mod? There must be one, right?

nothing, except put some tire stuff on the rear spoiler to bring the black back. I havent even started it for three weeks now. Tomorrow I am taking her for a little drive.
(OH, I checked the tire pressures, all were low, inflated fronts to 37, and rears to 48. Yes, 37, 48.)

In theory there is a very slim possibility that you could lock up the rears if you use un-matched pads or tyres front to rear, but presumably the ABS would kick in if that happened.

It's never happened to me though, on road or track.

Put her away for the winter. Up on wheel skates and tucked into the corner of the garage, patiently waiting for spring. It has been a very enjoyable first season with no disappointments.

Hope the winter is not too long up here in the great white north!
