Man... ton of fun. That's gonna be a sweet animal of a 928. Loose on the streets of NorCal. Have him hot foot it over to Santa Cruz, see the new Grateful Dead archives at UCSC, catch some waves, garage rights at my joint. Tools, manuals, beverages.
I'm about to go down the same road with my 16 year old daughter... only she's not turning any wrenches. Her main concern is 'does the sunroof work?'. We'll have to fix that... her, not the sunroof.

Sunday progress.
Remember those really cracked power steering hoses? Now is a good time to replace all three.

What do you do with a 27 year old A/C unit and old hoses?
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0612-1.jpg)
Replace. Might have been able to leave the old stuff (it still had substancial freon in the system and the hoses look good), but not taking any chances. Anybody need a good deal on a used compressor and hoses?

Wheel bearings packed, new seals. Installed hubs and adusted the bearings. New drilled rotors. Install upgraded late model calipers. Kyle will address the caliper finish at a future date. Time is getting pretty darn short. This thing needs to run, next weekend.

When you are dealing with a project of this size, you really need to figure out a method of telling yourself what fasteners are torqued and done, or you will either miss something or you will be retorquing things forever. We put a mark on things with a paint pen.

Makes it pretty easy to take a quick look and see what is tight and what is loose.
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0625.jpg)
A quick glance tells you that you are done in that area.
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0624.jpg)
What do you do with a rusty emergency brake cable assembly? (Tough to get apart and plate.)
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0619.jpg)
Call 928 International and get a great used assembly! Yes, those rear cradle bolts will get replaced, too.
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0621.jpg)
Kyle finally was getting low enough on pieces for the front, that he assembled the rear shocks, got them installed, with the rear uprights.
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/DSCN0616.jpg)
Here's the other side. Nothings is tight, back here. All of the suspension pick-up points are bonded rubber. The suspension really should be compressed to approximately where the car will ride at, before tightening, so that the bonded rubber can flex either direction freely. If you tighten this stuff with it hanging like this, the bonded rubber will have to move too far when the suspension goes into compression. This might tear the rubber loose from its bonding and ruin a bunch of really expensive rubber connections.
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0618.jpg)
Everything, in the rear, will get snugged up to being almost tight, but loose enough to still let the metal in the bonded rubber pieces move. We will lower the car down to allow it to sit on its own weight and tight everything then.
![](http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a415/GregBBRD/Kyle%20Porsche%20928/DSCN0622.jpg)
And yes, I do see that the upper suspension link to the top of the rear upright does have the cone washer installed backwards. I'll have him flip it over, tomorrow. I'm in charge of quality control. I also go around a set out the hardware/pieces in the proper places.

Most outstanding Greg! Only one week to finish? Dude that is a lot of work. Don't let any of my stuff get in the way of that. Seriously.
That is going to be one sweet ride when you are finished. I've been contemplating what sort of reaction Kyle may get when he returns to Berkeley. Driving a suhweet 928 and he having been raised in SoCal / Orange County, the Granolas may target his emblem of wretched capitalistic excess.
Tell Kyle to buy five bags of french fries and hide them under the seats and then print up a bumper sticker that says "***, Grass or Bio Diesel.... Nobody Rides for Free". Swapping out the leather seats for a faded set of the Pascha might help too. Truly must think about a reasonable alarm system for that car if he parks it on the street in Berkeley.

He does have underground parking at his apartment, but his truck would never fit. Hopefully he can leave the 928 in there.

Underground would be nice.
Maybe get a license plate that says "hybrid" and put a three prong plug line hanging out under the bumper for visual proof.

I had a block heater in my Chevelle, and the cord hung down about a inch or two if I did not put it in its hiding place, I actually think that some folks thought it was a hybrid.

Just get it "wrapped" at one of the sign places- green cannabis leaves and peace signs....hehe.
Hey, you're making some of us mortals feel sub-par with all this nice work- how we supposed to keep up with all that?
To do the same to my car, I'd need about 200 years......
