I get a woody every time I look at the progress on this thread. I'm jealous. Jealous again.

The OB style pickup with a 3/8th spacer works GREAT....I'm at 33 hours and counting on the current motor & it runs great with excellent oil analysis!!!

I keep forgetting to send the windage trays back to you for updating....I got to get around to that!!!

Greg,
This has beed a great thread to follow... thanks!

Today I learned how to service AC lines w/engine in situ, read up on System One oil filters, and learned 928 Intl sells that 16V oil breather baffle (didn't even know it existed). Great stuff! THANKS!

Update:

The car got completed and drove successfully to Berzerkley, this last Saturday. I was literally still fixing little things as my son was in the house, Saturday afternoon, packing to leave. Sunday was my first day, at home, in 4 weeks. I slept until noon...and that is not normal, for me. The lawn needed to be harvested, not cut! There's still a small list of things to do on this car...and there are "new" things that got added, once we drove her, but it is now a functional, driveable, reliable vehicle.

Wow. This was a completely crazy job. I think everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I've got a new found respect for you guys, at home, trying to retore/fix up these older cars.....and this thing only has 70,00 miles on it! I'm not sure I could have repaired this car, at home. I've got a whole bunch of pieces, I'm about 4 miles from 928 International, I've got a whole bunch of knowledge, I've got just about every tool you could imagine, but this thing was simply unbelieveable...even for me. We got so involved in trying to fix the insanity that we completely quit taking pictures, but I'll go over the things we found/repaired in the next few days.

Once my soul recovers.

You're a good father. But that comes at a price, to be sure. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

are you sure it's respect... not incredulity?

Well that is one old 928 that is going to raise the bar a bit.

Job well done sir.

PS, for the rest of the folks out there who have never done a restoration on one of these cars, you really can not imagine just how much work this is.

I do agree with Greg about one thing, we sure have it easier than the guys trying to do this kind of work with out a lift and a fully equipped shop.

I literally worked over 80 hours on this car (from Monday until Saturday, when Kyle left)....and this was after the engine was in!

I sincerely doubt that this car would have ever run again...if it was a "home" project.

I couldn't handle a project with engine issues in any reasonable time frame, maybe not at all.

The only reason I'm having success is happenchancing upon (knock on wood) engines that haven't failed yet. My guess is they might be on the verge, though, based on what you have revealed about cylinder/head corrosion.

You, sir, have extreme skills.

Sure wish you'd consider showing us all an early gearbox rebuild.

I'm just waiting for when we hear what the comments are from Berzerkly.

In all seriousness - the sort of environmental thinking I CAN agree with is:
using new resources when we can simply make the already used resources work again seems a waste. And using a 25 year old year counts as "reduce, reuse, recycle" pretty much to a tee.

Sure, enough brakeclean is on these cars to start a jet engine when cleaning them, but that's beside the point.
