That's Goodridge Silver Flame Guard. Nice stuff. I'll try and remember to get a picture of that hose completely done. The ends get a piece of shrink fit to protect the flame guard.

Here's a few engine pictures:

Block.

Block with crank installed.

Block with crank, rods, and pistons.

Water pump, oil pump, etc. installed. New studs installed.

Heads installed.

5-8 side.

Kyle turning over engine.

Windage trays installed.

I love this view.

Early pick-up. This pick-up has been lowered about 3/8". We're doing to throw this thing around some serious corners. Couple of the guys are using the early pick-up set-up on the track and seem to think it helps. We're going to do a bit of research.

Greg,

Don't fall for Ted's ploy. He just wants the green card. LOL!

But if you are considering adopting, I hold a US passport and can turn a mean wrench.

Well if you're considering adoption, my wife says i'm a special needs person. that's gotta translate into some cash for you and thus better than other offers you've had so far.

Amazingly enough, If you guys were closer....

I had two other mechanics...one of which I had to finally let go...he was too unpredicable. Could never figure out what his attitude and work results would be, from day to day. He needed a full time person to guide him...which meant I never got much done.

My other mechanic went out and joined the Army, for personal reasons. His final day was last Friday (Gave me a week's notice.....lots of the younger people today didn't get taught proper manners and actions...they are purely into instant gradification.)

I'm now back to doing everything myself....which is great, if there isn't much work to do, but is pretty tough if you've got a few hundred hours of work sitting around, waiting for you to get to it.

I love what I do. I do not enjoy (much less like or love) the business part of what I do.

Sunday's progress:

Kyle wiping something off. I finally found someone as **** as me...trying to figure out where that came from....

Cams installed.

Oil flter area. That's a System One filter. Note the oil cooler hoses. Adding a cooler to this engine. Those hoses are stainless outer with PTFE inner. Last forever. 928 INternational sells them.

Complete oil cooler hoses. Available exchange for your hoses, only.

Note the pan spacer.

Amazing little baffle works great to reduce oil in the intake system, oil consumption. 928 International carries them.

Goes in right here. Need to install it before the water cross-over, BTW.

Factory cam belt, stock tensioner and parts...bullet proof!

Front of the engine done. Covers installed.

It's an engine.

Or perhaps an art project...

Greg,

I for one think you should be happy that Kyle inherited your attention to detail. Of course that pales in comparison to the joy you should feel that he inherited Mary's looks.

Great thread.

Oh CRAP, down to just you and Mary.............

I feel for ya man, been there.
Hard enough to find some one who can just repair regular cars, to a regular level of wokmanship, but to find some one who can do it to your level, and show up every day, that is going to be tough to find.

I'm a tough guy to work for. I know that...have known it for a long time. I'm an uber perfectionist. Combine that with the fact that on work only on a very select amount of vehicles...and I know them backwards, forwards, upside down....pretty damn intimidating. People that do things just good enough to "get by" don't work out too well, here. People that "think" they know more than me don't work out too well, here. People that want to argue and do things "their" own way don't work out too well, here.

Heh...you need a real specialized mechanic? I might be available.

I'd come work for you, Greg, but A) it's hard to bill for parts cleaning (all I'm capable of) and B) you'd never get me out of the Snap-On truck when he's got 'free' donuts....

Not when you have been doing it for as long as Greg and I have been doing it, we need to make as much money doing critical things as much as we do when cleaning, if folks do not want to pay for having parts cleaned, then they can take that dirty POS someplace else.

Not trying to speak for GB, but that is the way it is at my house.
