When Brett's doing the high speed attempt, the main engine load will be working against air friction and the partial amount to accelerating the 3600lbs of mass.
On a dyno, all that power will be pushing against the drum/roller system. Not sure if that will be harder or softer than air friction.

Just hoping if the engine should cease to keep rotating that the transmission will decouple and freewheel at high speed.
He should use a brake dyno (there are two in within 20 minutes of my house in Green Bay if that tells you how "rare" they are).

In the video I posted above, the owner of that car also owns one of the dyno's. His SuperFlow dyno with the Eddie Current brake system can produce enough force to keep his 1,500+rwhp drag car from turning the drums. He can simulate any type of condition.

The record on that dyno is 1,800rwhp.

My apologies, I did quote you but my comment was directed towards Brett. I should have made that clear in my response.

If it was a sanctioned event, IIRC in order to enter the 200mph class you must have a cage and full safety gear.

No problem. I understand. You are a Packer fan after all.

Here is a wakeup call for some of you guys.

Use your imagination as to what will happen to our friend Brett if this happens to this engine at 100+mph. It's not going to be pretty.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here guys, I am honestly concerned for his life.

Oil on the track at any speed is dangerous.

Me too, that why I offered to refill his Nitrous tanks after a dyno tune.

There is no magical knowledge you possess that is not known by racers here in the US. We invented drag racing, pioneered using N2O and agurably have 100x as many racers doing the same. The biggest shot I've heard of was a 3 stage 600+ on a fully built 800CI race motor. I think domestic guys would get a few chuckles from these 1000hp on N20 only threads.

Just curious, do you have a dyno sheet for the 505hp in your sig? Was this in KW or converted to SAE?

Anyways, say safe and good luck with your endeavour.

Three-piece adjustable-length connecting rods. Just cut and glue to get the piston height you want! Why didn't I think of that?

WADE T + 1 !!!

this was humorous for me until the "years in advance of american systems"..
ARE YOU FUKN SERIOUS????
do you really think that your NOS system is some cutting edge, never before seen, think tank invented horsepower monkey????

aside from your 1000HP brain dead shot, i have yet to see anything space age aside from the brilliant decision to screw your bottles down to the back of your SEAT and NO ROLL CAGE !!!!!!

i wish you all the best and a VERY safe ROCKET RIDE. i just hope that you don't make the Darwin Awards....

Haven't heard of a 997 going over 200 mph, or a fatality in any Porsche
at an Open Road Race. Carl Young did crash his 96 993 Twin Turbo at the 2001
Silver State Classic, and both he and his wife (navigator) lived, though they did
suffer some significant injuries. The car was running in the Supersport Division,
170 class, which requires a full roll cage, and did have a tire failure. Carl just
died, in his sleep, earlier this year. Great guy, and a great loss...

sad, but true.......

Mmm......the Pro Mod guys should be watching this closely, don't you think?

I personally wouldn't attempt anywhere near this (200mph +) without a full race cage w/ harnesses, Nascar/Le Mans series tires (rated at least 250mph), and a diaper (ala' NHRA Top Fuel engines).

I've done some totally crazy sh** in my lifetime, but this is way, way beyond me.......

There's safety.......and there's stupid.

Brett, apparently, with this dragster experience at 200mph, has an idea of what is possible. Yes, it appears crazy..but they talked the same about Charles Lindburg.....and that woman pilot (Emelia) who we're still waiting to hear from. You take your chances...

I'm an old fart with not a lot to lose, but I wouldn't do it. Then again, I'm not going to set any records on anything either.

It might pay to consult with the Top Gear folks. They're Englishmen too and experienced.

Hi

To answer several posts at once...as I have some road testing to do...

Dangerous....lol...when I was a soldier, long ago and in a different life, I once stood in the desert with a guy who had a gun to my forehead ......and he pulled the trigger, and got a miss fire..whereupon I dropped to my knees in relief......luckily for me another of my team on a dune around 400 yards away was waiting for a shot and took his head off as I dropped....now THAT was a little dangerous lol

Compared to that ,this is a walk in the park as you Americans say

Trev Langfield ADVISES NX, and Holley/Nos on high tech stuff and both companies have sold his stuff because they have nothing like it....

I realise that you as Americans think that no other nationality is capable of producing anything that beats your national products, but in this case, you will either have to to take my word, or not believe me...

If its worth anything....consider this statement...I would NOT even attempt this on ANY American Nitrous system....because there are various technical problems, but the main being ,,,they HIT TOO HARD...and I really would like my engine in one piece after all this...

Finally, I realise you consider me nuts, as do a lot of people, most of the UK Porsche establishment have written me off long ago, and don't think anything will happen when I hit that switch lol

But why not is my attitude.....its never been done, which in itself is a good enough reason for me...and if it does go all wrong, then remember that day in the desert...i do....

All the best Brett

I just want to hear that you have done some fuel system upgrading...parallel system or mondo aftermarket pump. The stock fuel system will not provide enough fuel to support your additional nitrous flow let alone the engine's fuel system at the same time.

Hi All

Did some tuning/rejetting today on the Nitrous system and finally tidied up my breather system...

Some new photos here >>> http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm...3&mpage=1&key=

New photos starting at post 20....

Has anyone ever used the Blue SAMCO hose (in pics for breather pipe) to replace the 2 big air inlet induction pipes on both sides of the engine ?

I need to replace one of mine (slight split in it) and was wondering about the Samco stuff ??

All the best Brett

H2:

A full cage is an absolute requirement for any open road race car over 172 MPH tech limit. A competition roll bar is required for any car at or above the 140 tech limit with a target speed over 125.

I'm not aware of the specific event you mention. I have personally seen the result of one crash at 200 MPH where the car was pancaked flat on boh ends but the rollcage maintained the cabin integrity and the driver walked away from the accident. Brett's car MUST have a full rollcage. He's seems to be agreeing that most people think he is nuts, but I hope he's not so nuts as to try this w/o a cage.
