Cameron:

I looked a long time at routing my airfilter.....at least you are limiting some of the hot air....I went through the fender well to get all cold air. One more observation is that once you close the hood I am concerned whether your filter is pushed down into the bottom of the filter box and also limited on the top. If there is not clear space around the filter then that will limit the air intake even more.

I see that you doubled up the heat exchanger. If you have a pyrometer I'd be interested to see what your input temp and return temp to the intercooler are. ALso are you running the rubber impeller coolant pump that andy used or have you chosen something more reliable?

I am running a motorcyle radiator with a designated fan and a BIG water pump that flows 24 gpm on the intercooler.

You can see my filter, heat exchanger etc in post 1422.

Ken,

Thanks for the suggestions. The air filter does touch the bottom of the 'shovel' that I have it sitting in, but I believe there is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch space between the air filter and the hood when closed. I like your air intake setup, but am not sure that I want to go there just yet. Regarding the heat exchangers, yes I did double up and I am still using the cheapo pump that Andy had spec'd. Regarding flow, I read that if the flow is too fast, the coolant does not have an opportunity to cool down while in the heat exchanger. No science behind that, though. I am planning on replacing one of the bits of hose with a transparent section so that I can get a visual on flow. I like your idea of testing with a digital thermometer. I will have to borrow one, or buy one. I may install a small puller fan on one of the intercooler heat exchangers. I believe that when the car is in motion, it won't do much. But at rest, I have no cooling whatsoever. In fact, the heat exchangers probably pick up heat from the rad and ac condensor when I am at stop lights, or in traffic.

Cameron,
My initial TS set up at 8lbs and intercooled dynoed at over 450WHP. You should defiitely be making well over 400WHP. Your intake is not ideal but is set up the same as mine was. When dynoing with the hood open I don't think you lose much power though.
One of the biggest problems Professor Ott and I have found on 2 different Andy Keel intake manifolds is that they are not even close to being flat. We recently machined over 1/32" off of the TS intake to get the manifold to sit flat on the motor.
Is your MAF healthy?

Cameron,

Has anyone ever had the top-half of the engine apart? I chased my tail for about a year trying to figure out my power loss. My dyno looked similar, it would climb to @4700 then level off. Seems that the PO had some engine work done and they messed up the CAM Timing. Long story short, after re-adjustment using the Porken tool, I instantly gained 50 rwhp

Good luck...

Cameron,

We have similar setup and I am running 8 lb of boost at 377 RWHP shark-tuned. The setup we have is not as bulletproof but not as efficient as the TS etc. I think I should gain another 30 or so HP if I install an x-pipe but at this moment I am just enjoying the car. My main concern is getting an LSD installed so I can improve the off-the-line accelaration, new clutch, make the car lighter etc.

Darien you have the pics of how we routed your intake in the fender? I cant find them on my comouter?

Cameron, you need to do what Darien did.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I don't suspect the cam timing as an issue because the car was dynoed befor the blower install and put down 290+ rwhp which it wouldn't have done if the cam timing was off.

Darien and Gio, I would really be interested to know what air intake systems and filters you are running.

Thanks, all.

Whoo Hooo!!!!!!!

Let me give you guys an update on my recent boost enhancement.

About 4 months ago I went from a 60mm pulley to a 57mm pulley in an attempt to hit 500RWHP. Upon pulley installation, I had all kinds of noise issues - bad noises. Sounded like bearings in the snout were going. Needless to say I was a bit miffed. You could clearly hear the noise was coming from the snout. Oddly enough the noise mostly went away after the car warmed up. I really hadn't had a chance to data log anything before taking it to the dyno, so I was going in kind of blind.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when I was up at Murph's place and put the car back on the dyno. Here's the results. The dotted line was from May (I think) with the 60mm pulley. The solid line is with the 57mm pulley. You can see that the boost was falling off in the second sheet.

I was afraid to tighten the belt anymore for fear of messing up the bearings even more. But Rod Kubos (69Gaugeman) said it was belt noise. Upon inspection of the Scer pulley, it was clear that the belt was riding on the peaks of the pulley. This is not my pulley, but illustrates what was happening.

So we "tuned up" the pulley such that the width of the peak of the pulley was 0.042". The result looks like this. You should see light at the top and bottom. Now the belt really grabs the pulley instead of slipping on the peaks.

The next moring it seemed like the bearing/belt noise was gone, but by the time I made it back to Michigan, the noise was back. So I thought for sure it was SCer bearings. I gave the car three days of "time out!" I didn't want to even look at it. I was dreading the snout removal process, etc.

A few days later I took the car out for a datalog session just to see if the pulley tune up had solved my loss of boost issue. Below was the result - don't pay attention to RPM - it's messed up. Here is a 2nd or 3rd gear pull to redline. You can clearly see I'm loosing boost. But I didn't dare tighten the belt for fear of killing the bearings even more!

Then, Thursday last week I fired up the car and listened to the... "$queaky $queaky" but upon closer inspection, the noise was no longer coming from the SCer pulley... this time it was one of the lower idler pulleys.

I had that swapped out in about 10 minutes and then it was silent! SO my issue had been a combination of belt noise from the pointy SCer pulley, a bad idler pulley, and a belt that a tad loose. FINALLY! I breathed a huge sigh of relief! So I decided I could probably tighten up the belt a little bit more and preceeded to tweak it just a little bit.

On Saturday, we had a nice little gettogether in Ann Arbor, and I was able to do a little data logging on the way back. Here's a 2nd and 3rd gear pull to redline. All that was once wrong is now right again! Now I just need to schedule a dyno session to see what this bad **** is putting down! Anyone care to guess?

Oh yeah... looks like I fixed the AFR too. If you look back at the dyno sheet, I went a tad lean but eventually it fattened out. Now, per my datalog, everything looks good.
