What did you do to your 924/944 today

Its the original 84 radiator so I suspect the plastic is shot.

interestingly i was just reading about a possible solution for you...
on some models of VOLVO they used a push-in temp switch in the radiator.
the hole in the rad is 22mm and the grommet reduces i think to 16mm.
so you might be able to fit the grommet to your stripped threads and use the Volvo switch.

Cool, do you know if this approach has been used successfully with a 944 radiator? I am not sure I want to do R&D on this one.
I already ordered a replacement radiator but I might keep the old one and see what I can do with it.

check the PET diagram for your model. I do believe the sump oil drain is the same size as the temp switch on some models. if you are familiar, one usually hits the torque specification as the "crush" part of the washer bottoms out.
(strings of Teflon swimming around in the cooling system might give you a cavitation issue if it gets caught on one of the vanes.)

teflon tape is NOT for sealing a plumbing joint, in any way, shape or form.
its only purpose is to act as a thread lubricant while tightening tapered threads, which themselves provide the seal...

Yup, but I don't think the thermofan switch threads are tapered. Nothing else was working and thought it couldn't hurt....wrong!

cause they're made by Modine now

Fortunately Ian at 944online had one left, snagged it. Almost had to go with a Chinese aluminum, not that there is anything wrong with that.
