Taking a break from under the hood...
Removed my seats and BISSELLed the carpets.
The old musty smell appears to have left the car.
Let's hope it stays that way.

Took some driving footage, a buddy in the passenger seat had the tuning laptop and we were working on the acceleration enrichment.

The grinding 'buzz saw' noise during decel is from the transaxle - it's a high mileage replacement from a parts car and has done that ever since I installed it. The 2nd gear synchro is also very worn, so some of the 1-2 shifts are a little rough.

Watched while my friend (and son of a retired Porsche mechanic) replaced my door handle. He agreed with me that this is the biggest PITA job he and I have yet to come across on our 944s/924s. What made it easier in the end was removal of the inner window flange. This involved removing an 8mm bolt located at the bottom. After that, it was smooth sailing.

Lol...take apart a door handle on a mid nineties S class with the vacuume activated self closing door and vacuume locking system. PhD in neurosurgery and astrophysics is required.

Did not touch it except to pat it and say..."Tomorrow". Did body work and have to let the paint 'dry' for a coupe days before putting the rear end (license plate holder, side covers, bumper guards and side marker lights) back together. Hard not to work on it.....

My portion of the day was an exercise in the very unsatisfying experience of failure. Brake rotors that I purchased wouldn't center on the rear hubs, causing warping and lack of clearance, stopping the caliper.

The brake pads that I purchased did not fit either the front or the rear despite the vendor's website indicating that they fit both. Perhaps my brake calipers are not original?

I learned that one of my prior owners had stripped the rear hub threads into which the brake caliper bolts are snugged. I could not get the volts to rethread, because there is an effing helical oil in there which was tearing out! So, I spent hours in panic paying by the minute at a DIY garage hoping that I would be able to drive the car safely home. After $110, & 3 hours of work, my car is exactly as it drove in. I do have some fresh DOT 4 brake fluid in the reservoir.

As part of the timing belt, water pump, seals... journey, today I got the cam cover off. Will be replacing the various seals around/on the cam assembly. Getting the remnants of the old gasket off has been a pain!

Was actually Friday, but I attended the Porsche Sport Driving School at Barber Motorsports Park. Had an absolute blast driving some of the latest and greatest, and absolutely LOVED the GT4's they had. Learned a lot to apply to my 944, and tried out a bit of it on some back roads today!

Yesterday I drove odurandina's infamous, long-time-coming LS7-powered 968...as I call it, the "blueberry bomber".

Fast doesn't begin to describe it.

Some say he advocates putting V8s in the front-engine chassis.

It's really hard to tell, because he's so subtle and rarely completely expresses his opinions. I suspect he is shy.

Where does he stand on Bosch parts?

Just got back from my first road trip with the car (1600kms round trip). Car ran amazingly well but needs AC like yesterday... Had a cigarette powered cooler behind the seat stacked with water so wasn't too bad. Amazed how well it did fuel economy wise too, only spend ~$100 more or less the whole trip.. Don't think I'm driving fast enough! Did get stopped from all of the forest fires though. Car had to get in touch with its other Porsche sibling's rally heritage to get around one of the fires..

Edit: 1300kms

Took off front and rear bumper pads. Pushed back front bumper. Prepping car for paint and hole covering.

Swapping in correct yellow gauges and re-ordered. Yes, tach is sideways. Redline should be at 12ok. Speedo oddly enough, only was able to go in the left port. Could not get cable to swing to the right side. So that's where it is for now.

While behind the gauges. Did full amber LED swap.
