Spyder RS driving/ownership impressions

I met an SRS owner at a track the other week and he had decided to sell his SRS as it didn’t fit his use case. Firstly he had hoped it would be like his 991.2 GT3RS just without a roof, but it wasn’t. Not a track car, not an autobahn missile, only proper use case was for trips through the alps, and he couldn’t swing that more than 1-2 times a year so he decided to sell it after 2 weeks of owning it and just stick with the 991 for all uses. Can’t help but think he’d be better off with a GT4RS instead of the two.

I have a 991.2 3RS which I've tracked. I also got a 4RS which I've put ~300 miles on, haven't tracked it yet. The two cars have similar performance capability, but are quite different in their personalities. For me, the 3RS is the better car overall, and by a substantial margin.
It does also come down to money , as if some one is uber rich you track a 992 RS why would you not.
but at my level for track only and being able to drive to the track and still own a Porsche, the MR standard 992 GT3 is king really over the older cars in every way, or should I say by a substantial margin :-) the 991.2 RS then comes last out the 4 cars when you have to choose which one to buy. Times either 992 wins, fun the 4RS wins, that’s puts the 991.2 RS in last place even though it’s an outstanding car.

I chose the 4rs as it’s a better car for fun. While the 991.2 RS is a wonderful car and I did think long and hard which to have, for me the 4RS has a personality and the 991.2 RS has been super seeded by a newer 3RS. Also the 991.2 RS is also over bouncy to use as a fun road car. And if then you talk track I would take a standard 992 GT3 with some MR dampers over an older RS every time, so for me it left the 991.2 RS a bit in no mans land and slower than either the 2 newer 992 models.

Makes sense to be honest, I owned a Spyder and GT4 at the same time and when you can drive both back to back you can really feel how "inferior" the Spyder is in terms of handling compared to the GT4 so it made me want to sell the Spyder first(which I did then sold the GT4 and got a 4RS).
I don’t even drive my Spyder atm. Not sure what to do with it. Prob move it on , I think if it had an electric roof I would have kept it.
coupe is far superior on track.

I've driven all of them on the road, though the 4RS is still in break in and I have only 300 miles on it. My current ranking for road enjoyment is 3RS > GT3 > 4RS. All are good but that's my current ranking. 3RS feels like a race car for the road, super communicative and responsive. GT3 is more refined and has a magic front end. Main attraction of the 4RS is the soundtrack, which is too loud for my taste (I don't really notice a difference with sport exhaust off vs on, maybe it's stuck in on mode).
End of last season, we had our 3RS and GT3 at the track. Someone had a very well set up 4RS at the track. There was a very accomplished pro driver there, and he drove all three cars. I asked him which one he liked the most, and he said he would take the 3RS every time, "it's just better".

Spyder RS may be the ultimate, light-weight, analog, road-going, top-down sports car.
The first topless RS car, the last of the 718 platform, and a testament to Porsche doing what they do best.
Thank goodness there is a division that loves to drive, and are still making cars that are fun! I love everyone who buys a Macan or Cayenne, so we can have our fun too!!
The combination of the GT3 engine, smaller size, mid-engine layout, and overall weight savings will make it a unique and exceptional experience.
I spec'd mine with carbon fiber buckets and brakes. Looking to get light-weight aftermarket exhaust (Dundon) and battery.
Leaving the roof at home on a beautiful day will be a true contrast to the GT3 and TTS.

Mines will come around July , I was super close to purchasing a 4rs ws with pccb as they are going for around 225-230k (several negotiated) after driving my buddies 4rs for about 10 miles. but then got a surprise allocation for a sypder RS so chose that. My other cars include a Huracan performante a turbo GT and a turbo-s e-hybrid cayenne and a e92 V8 m3. I don't plan on ever tracking the the spyder RS so the softer suspension and short gear ratio is perfect. Will share as the car arrives

Anyone move from a GT spyder to an RS? I’d be interested in those comments.
