GT4 RS Driving Impressions
#166
Only two issues I experienced, rear end instability under braking at high speeds and understeer upon entry. Exit and mid corner were great (Siberia at PI is a good reference for me). My car is at the shop right now and they have contacted Manthey for setup suggestions, aside from going to high downforce it is stock. I'll report back on changes made and will also compare to what the UK Suspension Secrets shop suggests. I'd suggest drive it stock around a track first and adjust from there, the default behaviour is very different to a stock GT4.
Look forward to hearing future updates

My 997 Gt3RS have had rear end instability (wiggling) when braking from high speed previously. After replacing the stock diff with a Guards unit with a 40/60 (accel / deccel) ramp - its now super stable when braking in the same conditions.
I have also tried Mclaren 570s / 650s on track where they exhibit slight rear end wiggling on hard braking - Mclaren have open diff.
I wonder if a more aggressive diff will eliminate this issue - maybe at the expense of more understeer though.
I run my Gt3RS with 13 minutes of toe in at the rear (each side) - and that’s likely what I will try to do with the 4RS - that’s just a bit more than the stock recommendation. Probably will not eliminate the rear end unstable feel on bumpy surfaces but may help reduce.

Quite different driving style between rear engine car and mid-engine car.
It's simply not possible to compare driving style between a rear engine car and a mid engine car

Sounds about like you traill braking a bit too deep. If you do the same in a GT4RS, you ARE spinning.

Considering your interest, here is the onboard video from the GT4 CS lap.
At Eau Rouge, there is a big lift before he goes into the compression but is then back on the gas almost before he reaches the bottom of the compression.
At Stavelot, it is not entirely flat as there is a very brief feathering of the throttle just before the apex.

Thicc
Greetings and Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
As I’m getting fatter today, I was hoping that the GT4 RS isn’t too fat, so I put the car on my corner scales. This is one thicc girl…
GT4 RS. Weissach but not magnesium wheels. Steel brakes. Carbon seats. Front lift. 3144 lbs ready to go but with zero fuel. 64L of fuel would make it 3250 lbs.
For comparison…992 GT3 Touring. Manual. Steel brakes. Power seats. Front lift. 3134 lbs ready to go but with zero fuel. 90L of fuel would make it 3283 lbs.
GT4 RS is hardly a lightweight, at about 200 lbs more than a 911R, but not too bad considering current regulations.

my estimate for the weight of a GT4RS without lift or any other weight-adding options, but with PCCB and Mag wheels and an empty tank of fuel is 3070 lbs. Keep in mind that the 992 has an unfair advantage of a Lithium battery which can be easily rectified on the GT4RS to save an additional 40 lbs. Remove the fix-a-flat and jack/tools and add in a titanium exhaust and you’re below 3,000. Pretty good for this day and age.

My initial impressions after picking it up yesterday:
1. The car is LOW. I am so glad I selected front lift. It makes a big difference going over speed bumps and sloped entrances.
2. It is RAW. You hear everything behind your ears, each valve opening, the ticking, parts moving, the air being sucked in. It is a magically experience and certainly not one I have ever experienced before.
3. Best of both worlds. The car with the new 992 GT3 engine, coupled with the analog switch gear is simply bliss. It avoids having all the extra tech and touch features and lets you focus on the driving experience.
4. Feedback. The car provides so much feedback and connection through the steering and the shifter. You feel each part of the road in a good way. Coupled with the noise behind your ears, you truly feel one with the car when sitting in the drivers seat.
All that is to say is, winter can’t finish soon enough! Looking forward to next season

any idea how the Z06/Z07 compared?
#177
I'm not sure of the time, but it was faster. I guess that's probably not telling anyone anything they didn't expect. I am looking forward to seeing the issue drop to see how much faster. And unfortunately have to wait until next year to see how the 3RS will compare.

thanks to certain individuals, this thread began to suck because of all these "my modded GT4 is better than stock GT4RS, even though I have not driven a GT4RS yet."
Mind you, this is the driving impression of GT4RS. Not what I think it will be like based on what I don't have.

I did not really drive them much different, you get slighty more apex speed in the GT4 so you are not braking as much anyway, but you can get the power on earlier in the 911 from the Apex and imo have a bit more control over the limit. I used to trail them both into the bend any way. I also think a good GT4 driver can drive modern 911's faster than old school 911 owners, As old school 911 owners still think the engine out back will kill them and cannot seem to adapt !
I think if you can drive pretty well the modern 911 is easier to drive than the GT4, It has better front and rear sus layouts, and more precictible and less snap than a GT4 on the limits. They do drive very much the same now days imo just with their own trates, As I said it's not 1969 !! or even the 2010 Era. Hence again avergage old school 911 drivers of old do struggle driving a modern 911 as fast they should be going.

It's like the motor bike owner imo, nice for a Sunday Morning blat but Porsche make better road cars and better track cars for less or the same money. Happy they made it, but don't get where it fits in the line up and would not buy one myself over a 991.2 RS WP car or the standard 992 GT3, both those model would get my money over a 4RS but we all like what we like :-)
Maybe more Germans think the same as me and not the same as you :-) I doubt they are haters of the car, but they just don;t want one over Porsche other Products. Like myself.
I have given up track work and sold my GT4's and GT3's any way and down graded (track time wise) to a 718 Spyder. It's amazing how much nicer it is to drive on the road than pure GT models and I have done long Euro trip in it already and no head aches lol. Plus when the suns out it's a winner.
I think if you are not a track hack just forget about GT cars any way they really are sub par for road use, and if you are a track hack buy a 992 GT3 ! if you are a cars and coffee sort of guy just buy the latest greatest GT model and post up about it every thread :-) If I bought another GT car I would go back in time and buy a boggo 997.1 GT3 and put some plush shocks on it and a short final drive. they are fast enough. (Main reason i sold my 991.2 GT3 was too fast for the road) and after 4 years of ownership how every great that engine is I always picked other cars to drive about in.
