I had a 981 GTS before and that did not sound like this in any way and I have been quite annoyed by the sound to be honest. I have from friends that are more knowledgeable regarding engines been time that the annoying sound is coming from the piezo injectors and the high pressure fuel pump.

Does anyone here know if the 992 carrera has got the same construction and makes the same sound? As I understand it the 4.0 is based on the 992 carrera engine..
only just, it shares very few of parts in common.

Which means that the 992 doesnt have piezo injectors and different high pressure pump?

As has already been said the 4.0l engine in the 718 is part of the 9A2 family so it shares design considerations with the 3.0l engine in the 992...

And in fact the piezo injector system for the 3.0l and 4.0l engine are of the same design.

The ticking will be regarded by Porsche as normal until something fails, if it happens.

Let’s just hope we will find out before the warranty runs out.

Interesting comment based on the assumption that something is abnormal when it is not...

I guess I wasn’t fully awake when I typed that. Trying to wake up early for upcoming time change tomorrow.

I should add this to my prior post:

Assuming the ticking noise is actually not performing as intended,....

I’m just getting my car out and about and I’m hearing it too. Sounds like a sticking lifter from my old V8 days.
It is annoying, I hope I start to tune it out.

Does it start to disappear over time?

I still don't have your old Soul Race Exhaust installed yet! But I am very much looking forward to it. Because...

At the risk of sounding like a hater, I have to say the 718 GT4 is the worst sounding Porsche I've owned from the factory. Yes, subjective, I know, but to me its just really underwhelming for a GT car. I'm hoping the Soul exhaust will change my opinion, since sound is such a big part of the experience for me. YMMV

Nope....I'm at almost 2K miles and it's less obvious but still there..maybe I'm getting used to it!

Hey Nathan....I figure you were talking to me. The exhaust will be a big improvement but got to agree with you...the sounds from this engine are not good.

In the not too distant future, the sounds you hear from inside will be programable as there will be no ICE, all electric.

Okay, I’ll have to learn to ignore it, thanks.

My 991.2 got a lot quieter when I changed the oil to 5/50 from 0/40...I will do the same on the Sypder when it gets changed and maybe it will have the same result.
