Either location will be visible if the service department needs to open the engine access cover.
So you bolt down the metal cover to the metal body and the wires can still slide? As I said, I haven't done my install yet and assumed the engine cover was a no-gap snug fit.

Although I would not say they slide, there is a gasket that runs around the perimeter of the cover, the bolts snug down the aluminum but the cover essentially floats on this gasket... I would not have put electrical wires where they could be pinched.

I had considered installing a weather-proof grommet for the wires to go through but because they would have exited at 90 degrees to the carpeted surface (not acceptable) and the cover gasket afforded easy safe egress I went with this route.

Added benefit to putting the unit in the trunk is that if it comes loose for whatever reason it's not banging around in the engine bay.
Plus in that event it's easy access to the unit under the carpet vs opening up the engine cover to get to it.
There is no good reason to leave it next to the engine. I'm surprised that's what Cargraphic suggests to do?

Good thing some of us get answers from them ).
I asked them the same thing 3 weeks ago, had a follow-up 1 week ago and still no answer .

One practical improvement would be a wiring harness so that if the unit needs to be replaced you could just unplug it from the harness rather than the whole painful installation exercise. Wander if they would do this?

Added many piggyback type devices in engine area over the years with zero issues. Can easily find a 1.5mm steel bracket at hardware store to suit or simply quality 3M DST. In my opinion, a neater install. Respect each to their own though

No need to wonder, this ability already exists... although it isn't a simple 'unplugging' it can be done.

If required, I can walk someone through the process, but unless the unit fails I would suggest that anyone not trained/familiar with such replacement actions leave things alone.

Maybe their photo is for the 3 mode controller

Pardon me for not reading all 200+ posts to find this answer, but does anyone know for certain these two things:

1) When the Cargraphic Valve Control Unit 3-Modes is set for the days use, does it remain in that setting, on the next engine start up, or does it default back to the stock setting?

2) Can the included remote be programed to my (3) button garage remote near the rear visor, so I don't have to use the remote each time I make a change?

Yes retains settings, and Yes can be programmed to Homelink buttons
