Thanks! I tend to trade cars in to not deal with the hassle of selling, but I am not going to be in the market for another car for a while, and just wanted a quick and painless (up-front) transaction for buyer/seller. I loved the car, just changed life priorities (or the wife CHANGED my priorities) but will own another one day (even if it costs me another 5 or 10K to do it at the rate they are going up now-a-days....

Thanks to all the wonderful people on Rennlist, I will still be hanging around (mainly in the track section), but i am very grateful for the support the follow owners have for eachother.

Hello folks! I am a new 996 turbo owner (will be driving it home from Porsche of Tysons Corner on a 30 hour drive-time road trip starting Friday afternoon) and was horrified and shocked that I could have gotten a slightly newer car with amazing wheels and less than 50K miles for the reasonable price of $18K. Woulda-coulda-shoulda ... guess I'll just enjoy mine and not think about the bargain of the millennium: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...8727/overview/

The link is no longer valid, but as everyone here will attest to, there's no such thing as a free lunch nor are there very many good 996 Turbos for sale under $40K.

Congrats and post some pics and details on your new ride....

Too bad that's a tip, that would make a great track car for the price.

No way in hell. Any roadworthy 996tt would be worth way more than that in parts.

Sounds like a cared for X50, not loving the enlarged Turbo script on the rear and "911 turbo" decals though.

Agreed. Based off my experience with sites such as cars and autotrader there are a lot of scams. You email or contact a guy like that and get a bogus email back about them being away overseas. Send them a deposit, etc..

I posted the $18K 996T because it was clearly a hoax/scam. Was trying to be funny/sarcastic touting it as a great deal.

I paid less than $40K for mine, but it's a one owner car with great records sold from a large Porsche dealership. Hopefully I got a deal. If not, guess I'll just see about that if I have to deal with it.

A lesson about this forum is that talking about getting a good deal on a car purchase here doesn't win you any friends. I found that out the hard way - actually had one forum member stage a one-man campaign to get me banned last year. The mindset here values paying fair market value rather than bargain shopping. Not criticizing, just stating what appears to be a forum "norm". Over in the NA 996 forum, it's fine to discuss it and you'll probably even get an "attaboy" on a great purchase.
