I agree, that's why I'm hoping to get a modded car for about the same as many stock cars. I just don't think this will be one of them. Modded cars are a crap shoot because they do put extra stress on the engine and people don't usually mod a car unless they plan on driving the car hard. Mods can also sometimes make trouble-shooting problems more difficult as well as cost more $$$ to repair. So when buying a modded car, a thorough PPI from a shop that is knowledgeable about not just that marque, but also about what kind of things to look for on a modded car, is definitely important. But if you're planning on modding a car, letting the previous owner take the hit on the costs of modding can be a great deal if the car is right. That's what I'm hoping to do. I'm not looking for an investment, I'm looking for a car that I can and will drive and enjoy. When I had my '72, if I wanted an investment, I'd have kept the original 2.4 and painted it back to it's original silver. Instead, I dropped a 3.6 in it and painted it black w/red Carrera striping and put on rear flares and RS bumpers and ducktail. I did that because that's what I wanted for me, not for the next guy

St. Louis, MO area 2004 996TT Cabrio, 26,8xx-ish miles $52k asking with a bunch of extras
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...ting=148039214
I drove this car on Saturday and it presents even better than advertised which is pretty amazing for a broker; generally with brokers it's been the other way in my experience but this guy is legit.
I'm not going to buying, decided the 996tt is not for me to own after driving it thoroughly, but I wanted to give the car a vote of confidence to anyone who may have spotted it or be looking. It's a 2004 Arctic/black TT 6-speed cabrio with about 26800 miles on it and a transferrable aftermarket warranty and factory hardtop, windflector, along with another few things. Other than a squeaky clutch pedal all of the flaws presented in the ad were present, but no more. So, a scraped front air dam, a couple rock chips, one door ding on the passenger side. The taillights aren't even cracked, everything works perfectly, power delivery smooth, no coolant odors after being warmed up and driven spiritedly, etc. It's a happy car with a good history, current owner is 2nd owner, recently had the spoiler lifts replaced, and a couple other things.
Thanks for all the guidance, 996tt rennlist forum, I'm going back to boxster shopping

It's not the car's fault, it's more my priorities. Wonderful car, and as a daily I think a coupe might be the perfect automobile, but I already have my forever-car so I don't have a need for such a well-rounded vehicle, I need more of a specialist for superfluous fifth car. For many reasons not the least of which is they're just much slower and easier to replace, smiles per dollar goes to the Boxster and that's what I'm looking for in a superfluous car purchase. I don't know how to describe it; it was just too...good. Maybe if it was leaking and had a broken top I would have been charmed, dunno. I think I was looking in the wrong place; a GT like the 911 when I should have my focus on smaller roadsters. I have always appreciated 911's and wanted one but I think I'll just have to be an appreciator from a distance. With unlimited time money and garage space sure this is one of the first cars in the collection, but with reality firmly taking hold on the ride home, nope
I'm going to be pissed in 5 years when these are going for $75k though.

We can only dream and/or speculate that our cars will be worth significantly more in the future. That would be a first for me personally, I've never owned a car that appreciated and I sure as heck didn't buy this car for an investment...it's so fun to drive and a STILL a great bang for the buck.

The seller isn't very responsive. I emailed him about 2 weeks ago asking for maintenance history and he never responded. I then texted a couple days ago asking when/if the clutch was replaced and asking him how the rear spoiler works. He responded today with "clutch works fine, spoiler goes up and down, all maintenance in books" I am local, but going to pass on this one

What do you guys think about the price for this one; seems high for a low optioned car. I was thinking a fair price would be $45k, thoughts?

Seems like a very good deal and love the exterior color. Looks very clean for the mileage too.

I loved my 996 TT, and hated that I had to sell it. It's hard to duplicate the joy a Boxster gives you, especially in the twisties. And then if you get a Boxster with a NA 3.8, my oh my.....

Ad says it is RWD, but probably just a typo.
I do like the color combo, though not a fan of gray interior it looks good with the dark red.
And I seriously doubt a wet towel caused that ripple - some dashes just do that. Expensive to fix that problem, so most just live with it. My '99 C4 aero had a similar issue.
Those wheels are an inexpensive TireRack wheel that doesn't show as correct fit for the 996TT or 996C4S, but it does show as a correct fit for a narrow body 996:

Not saying they are horrible wheels, just be aware that he went inexpensive and that the widths are 8" front and 10" rear (although according to TireRack, those are OE widths for a wide body 996). I don't know why they don't show up in the search results for the wide body cars on TireRack, but they don't.
Bottom line, I would do a PPI on that car for certain. If it is in decent shape, though, that is a very good deal.
