Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?
Thanks Doug. Ive emailed Peter to find out whats required in typical Targa Tour events as I do need to know myself before the SI event. It would be nice if I could take my new 1.5kg unit...
Doug. Good news. Peters answer below. Looks like a recent change, Means my new imported unit will also now work! Thanks for bringing this to my attention...
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your email. The minimum fire extinguisher requirements for the Targa tour is only 1kg. This was negotiated by us with Motorsport nz last year. Safety is one of those things that can not be taken lightly so if you have a bigger one then all the better.

Ron has confirmed we can fill up with 98RON from Highlands during week days. This means we can divert to Cromwell on the way to QT for a fill up before heading to Teretonga the next morning. Wongt be enough to get us there plus the track but will be a good start. Maybe we pitch in an buy 3-4 20L container to fill up and keep as top up for before we leave for Invercargill in the morning and when we get back from the track...
Graeme. Awesome in car footage! Makes waiting for the SI event even harder. You were really unlucky with that power-on oversteer into the fence..."the box on the right hand side" I bet that plays a bit occasionally in your head! You almost got away with it too!
Its fascinating listening to your navigator. Ive not driven with an experienced navigator and will be sharing my drive in SI targa with an experience wheel man who I dont believe has navigated before either. My wife just fed me everything and I had to filter, but Im suspecting you have driven with your guy lots and he gives you just what you need. I needed less than I was given but didnt want to tell her off and miss some vital info. Tightening corners, and count down distances to double and triple exclamation warnings seem to be the most useful and this is where the Rally computer is vital...
Doug and others. Dont fear. The group one Tour cars are generally never travelling more than around 80% of Graemes speed in this video, and often less. You will be going faster than you anticipated but at any time you can button off, move back in the group or to the back group, its really as much as you want to make of it. But its a great thrill.

Some of us alone weigh over 100kg in our underpants Graeme :-)

yep that must have been 4 years ago now... one of the hard knocks lessons...
Had had a brilliant run on previous targa and also rotorua earlier that year. didn't mind charging over crests etc but now happy to caress the brake with left foot over all blind crests..
had chased down the 500hp CLK Black of my mate and didn't need to press on like that.
We had bent arms from that fence incident. repaired on side of road with a wheel alignment by eye from one of the crew Cy ( he has codriven with me on Rotorua a couple of times too) He does a lot of wheel alignments and spends about 3min turning the adjustment for toe and goes "that's it" We put it on the laser in New Plymouth that night and it was within 1mm. That's why I always take experienced rally crew on Targa
George has co driven for me on all Main events now since 2007. So you just get used to a style. He looks as far ahead as he can see and I have taught him to look read the road a bit better too - terrain clues and likely direction of next corner that you can't see. etc...
I may need a new co driver for this year though...
