Glad to hear you are enjoying it as much as we do! One of our shop cars is an 87' Slantnose and it is once of my favorite cars to drive. Nothing like that incredible, rythmic burble on decel next to the highway divider once the exhaust is freed up haha.
Mr fabspeed, might have to chat about a 996 GT3 chip and best combo to have an exhuast that is under 100 dba and doesn't drone.

You need a few more you tube vid's and some dyno results to convince me.

Cheers
Paul

Pretty wicked what the air cooled cars are capable of once you let them breathe the way they should haha.

I would love to chat about it

Decibel testing is very subjective based on unregulated variables throughout the world and on tracks, variables such as distance, angle, surrounding acoustic environment, throttle input, area in the powercurve, the gear you're in, etc etc.

That being said, it is a blessing and a curse that you have such a rare car...I have personally never seen one come through the shop for the opportunity of additional videos/dyno runs over what we have on file. From what I have heard at the track and car meets, and various other Carreras we have had come through here with similar exhaust/engine setup, the ideal setup for your goals would be starting with our Sport Cat X-Pipe and Maxflo Mufflers. The Supercups will likely be too loud and have cabin penetration in certain conditions, and our Sport Headers will additionally cause the sound level to go up a notch with not as much performance gain as our Sport Cat X-Pipe and Maxflo Mufflers.

Also, I just spoke with my tuner and rather than sending your ECU to us and then having to ship it back (I see you are in NZ), for around an additional $100 (just need to calculate shipping) we can send you a device that will allow you to read your ECU without ever removing it from the car, and send that data to us via email for us to protune and send back to upload on the car.

Headers is where it's at for power. Preferably equal length tuned three into one. No cats....

Has anyone used a brake fluid tester to determine the time is right to change the fluid?

PM sent, it would be a pleasure to work with you

It depends on the car, but on most modern day Porsches you are right on the money. The cats are located in the header assemblies so we can tackle performance improvements from the header design and cat efficiency at the same time.

Pre-997.2 and Pre-986.2 things change a little as the cats are located separate from the headers, spreading out the performance potential between those two parts. In that case, typically most of the performance potential on the exhaust side would be located in the cat assemblies followed by the headers and mufflers.

Good point. My experience was based on 991 model GT3.

In NZ it's possible to pass "emissions" without a cat, so for a 996 GT3 this is a real option to make better power...

Thanks Graeme. That was very useful. The one I attached was for DOT4 but as I'll be using it for SRF only I will get a base reading from both some new fluid and some old fluid to get a better understanding of calibration. Mostly I'd like to test the part used bottles I collect to understand which ones may be actually contaminating the system during a brake fluid change, especially given how expensive the stuff is...

I know what you mean. I have had a few part used bottles too over the years. Probably should just bleed the road car brakes if there is any left from an event

Now that's what I'm talking about, sign me up for NZ And yes upgrading the cats would be my first order of business on a 996 GT3 if I had one and was to pursue a single modification versus multiple to maximize the potential.

I had earlier this week that plates.co.nz had lost the contract to sell plates for NZTA. Just checked their site and they've put up a farewell statement. Hopefully this means whoever steps in will reduce prices.

Can anyone recommend a good universal car mount for a cellphone? I'd like to use my phone as a dashcam.

Unfortunately the opposite. A new euro style plate is now $100 more at $1200! This deal was the only time I ever saw plates at half price. Clearly plates.co.nz knew they were loosing the franchise after 28 years (probably political as I can't see how it wasn't a listen every to print money?), and decided to run a special. Their terms were very strict - it all had to be done by 30 July. The new crowd have some new plate designs and colours but nothing particularly attractive - their Euro plate now comes in more colours but the design is still naff IMO....
