Has anyone used have knowledge of Nankang NS2R semi-slick tires? They are $269 each, which represents pretty good value I wold have thought.

There is no stock of the z221 or r888 any my sizes any where in NZ

Cant help you on those Nankas sorry. What sizes you after?

Surprised/dissapointed the stocks of Z221 are on their way out. We predicted this. Do you know if they are reordering? Hope so and in 18" too or else will be alot of grumpy RSGers just lost a second or more of their PB laps!

You could try the RL forums for suggestions.

I hear good things about Nitto NT01.

I Dunlop DS03G are very good if you have the budget.

The Yoko AD08? is used widely in Australia P car club racing and they like it there.

Most I know rate the above better than R888.

Although its really only relivant within a particular manufacturers range the wear rating should ideally be 60-80 for a grippy R comp.

Chosen as the casting quality was variable and likely to look better with a Matt finish

They don't come in my sizes and can't comment directly but here are a few reviews in case no-one on here has run them:

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Nankang/NS2R.htm

I wouldn't normally have let a Nankang near a Porsche but the NS2Rs look to have tested out well on drift, race and even endurance cars so provided your rears come in XL rating they're probably worth a go. They look to be a bit more road oriented than most other R-comps, which can sometimes be a plus in NZ.

You know John. The reason I never bought the AM ones for my 993 was because I didn't like the shiny/bright nature of the anodized finish.

I personally feel this finish you have is pretty good. Id like to see a slightly darker red crackle finished on my 993. Ill add that to the next update list then!

The 993 has the value factory covers made of composite (they moved away from metal and improved the gasket design). In 22 years its had a single set of lover covers (from sitting to long in storage I suspect - one year when I didn't use it).

I wonder if I can get a deep red crackle finish onto the composite covers. Might not stay etc.

Time to put the Z214s on the front, straight through exhaust and dyno map. Doug, are you playing?

Hi Macca, good plan.
Contamination control is a huuuuuge topic but basically even fresh new oil isn't clean enough. Filtration is still worth considering and will show real benefits.

For some of our critical plant, our target oil cleanliness (in the range 4-14 micron particle size) is 1ppm .

Fresh oil is often 50ppm... and the smallest particle you can see with the naked eye is 40 micron!

http://www.windpowerengineering.com/...wind-turbines/

One of the conclusions from their research was “Replacing 40-25µm filters by units rated at 3µm absolute is to be recommended for gearboxes. Such action should lead to improved reliability, longer periods between overhaul, cheaper overhauls, and consequent reductions in ownership costs. Times between oil changes, where relevant, should be substantially increased.”

I can bore you to tears with this stuff...

Cheers,
Mike

Dougie - we need to silence Herman.

I'm thinking a small investment in some 214's on 16's to lower your gearing could be a tastie investment for a 1.18.XX

This will have JMc crying into his fancy paint job at night and finally put a semi-respectable 964 lap time up.

You 964 guys are pathetic given a 993 is basically the same car, but with different fenders. I can't understand the 4 sec delta between the two cars.

You 964 guys need to stop surfing the 964 p*rn pages and get some *****........ ??

Good I think, and they're relatively cheap. Brian @ Megatyre can probably answer conclusively. http://www.megatyre.co.nz/

Not saying this is a permanent fix but oil does make a huge difference.
I know it didn't with yours and Macca's box John but the Redline definitely did with mine. Guess I caught it early enough. However I'm of no illusion that it will at some stage need a rebuild.

Mitsi Evo's also had a well known issue with the syncro from 4th to 5th and the fix was Redline and again it worked immediately and the box never needed opening. That being said I know there are threads on here that are like 15 pages long arguing about oil types etc. Its worked for me thats all I can say and and others have their preferred flavour
