A burst of activity!
NZ911: Hows the weather been treating you guys down there? You seem to have had a bad run.
993MAN - please explain this..........(gotta be a story behind this)
GeorgeNZ: The twilight option sounds nice actually, but would be better with at least 3 hours.
My car should be all good again soon.
HD is booked pretty solid as far as weekends go and a private hire might be a bit cost prohibitive fore a small group (~$5k/day) but like Craig, I can recommend Playday on Track.
Might be worth looking into a twilight booking at HD though - I think its from 5.00pm to 7.00pm

All over the place. Today started in the mid twenties (26 on the car disply), then at about 1.30pm the southerly front came through and the temperature halved within 30 minutes!! I'm on the ferry on the 28th so the north better not let me down weather wise!!

NZ911...small world indeed (or maybe just small country!) Had a BBQ last night with a workmate who had pics of a trip he did with Steve up to Vancouver...skiing at Whistler. Every time I go to Vancouver, it doesn't stop raining long enough to go skiing!

Happy New Year to you to Nick.
Just arrived home from a couple of weeks in the NI today. 2,411 kms in the 993 with an average speed of 76 km/h and 10.3 litres per 100 kms. Fuel consumption was amazing considering air-con on 100% of the time and two adults plus a seven year-old with luggage (well as much as you can fit in a 911!) and in the 2,411 kms we were only passed once (by a motorbike when we were in a line on traffic).
Car ran perfectly the whole way, although it does need a serious clean inside and out.
Have got to say that it is easier to average 76 km/h in the SI than it is in the NI!!

Brilliant!
Sounds like you had a good trip. For the load the 993 had that economy is pretty damned good. How did the 7 year old cope jammed in the back?
Of course it's easier to have a higher average speed in the SI................the NI has 4 million other cars and the SI had 30% less cars while your 993 was up this way.
Aren't these cars just meant to be driven..............

7 is the perfect age for the back seat - fits like a glove. The front seat can be fully back on its runners and he still has room. The reason for doing the trip this year was that he might not fit so well next Christmas.
Certainly are made to be driven. Got into my Outback after we got home and it seriously felt like a truck - sitting really high and wallowing around. Normally (and in a week or two's time) it feels fine. I normally get a similar feeling after driving the 993 but after two weeks and a few thousand kms it is much longer lasting.

My 2 1/2 year old and 4 1/2 year old fit great in the back. Best aspect of the car and nothing better than going for a cruise as a family, stopping at a Cafe for lunch and then off cruising again

Very nice....
Good on both of you for enjoying the car and your family at the same time............good combo! Do it and enjoy while you can.
I know what you mean about changing cars. I get into the BMW and can't figure out why it doesn't go very quickly and then when braking i should remember to do it earlier! Any other car has this thing called "body roll" which takes a couple of days to get used too.

Thanks for that cbnz.
Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest at this stage. Damn cheap way to have fun on a track though.
We have another little jaunt planned for next weekend so will ask again and see if anyone has given it some thought.
Cheers,
Nick

Ellerslie Concours/Car show
Last Sunday the annual Concours and car show was on in Auckland. Lots of very cool cars, different marques from Austin's to Lambo's.
Naturally there were one or two Porsches...........
Heres a Ruf in amazing black and a Jubilee 964 (number 308 of 911) that has had the Ruf treatment (480HP).
