Hi NZ911,
How strong is the club down your way? I've never had the "child friendly event" problem as my kids are no longer kids........and it's been a while since i was a PCNZ member.
There is a bunch of us with 964's that get together every few months for a blast, may be you could do the same with fellow 993 owners with kids?
Cheers,
Nick

The club is very strong in Christchurch with plenty of varied events.
There are actually a few of us with kids, we are just very poor at organising them to come along to the same event! E.g. someone brings their child along and they are the only one, get bored etc so they don't bring them next time. Next time someone else thinks "there were children last time, I'll bring mine" and they are the only one..... and so the cycle continues. The last event I went to a month or so back we discussed being more organised in the future! Fingers crossed because my 7 year old son loves going along for the drive.

Oh yeah..........kids love going for a ride in a porsche!
BTW, i understand that the local council bylaws in Christchurch don't allow ownership of TWO porsches...............but don't worry i'm willing to help you out, just ship that old 3.2 up to me.

Hi all,
What's been happening lately? Not much action on this NZ forum.
We've moved over to St Heliers..I see there's a nice looking white 993 nearby...somebody here's?
C4S has been going well....did the last PCNZ Driver Training Day and was involved in the mass display at the Ellerslie Concours last month....pics below.

Well, I'll look forward to seeing you around then. I tried doing the "friendly wave" thing with when I first got my Porsche, but stopped after getting too many blank stares. I guess they were people who thought their Porsches were "just cars"!

I wave to everything air cooled and most watercooled 911s. Boxters and Caymans look at you like you're on another planet so I gave that up long ago.
The 3.2 gets waves from only air cooled and typically similar age or older. PCNZ members in water cooled cars are not so good at returning the gesture!
The 993 gets waves in return from most - air and water cooled. Interestingly the 993 gets waves from the same cars that don't wave to the 3.2!

How bizarre..........i have found the same thing, wave to a 996/997/Boxter etc and they either ignore you or look at you as though you're nuts. I kinda thought it was an Auckland thing.
It hasn't been a problem with anything older than a 993. I don't think it's an aircooled thing its more the classic shape that catches the eye. Although i do admit to waving "enthusiastically" at a 964 once only to get a very puzzled look from the driver.............i forgot i was driving a non porsche!
John: When are you back in the country? I do remember once apon a time reading about your car on a UK porsche web site.

Here are a few (sorry about the phone quality pictures) shots from the South Island Punakaiki trip 15/16 August. Photos at Lake Brunner, Jackson's Hotel and at the top of the Otira viaduct. C4S stayed at home - too much ice grit still on the roads. Mine is the white 911 cabriolet.

"Quick" drive and coffee
A few of us met up at Cornwall Park today and decided to drive out to Ardmore Aerodrome for a coffee. Gloriously beautiful day, fantastic cars, nice people!

What's that funny looking red one!!! Are you having 'drive your Porsche' day next weekend up north. PCNZ Christchurch is heading to Hanmer Springs - the long way. Hoping for a good turnout. I'll take the camera this time instead of using my phone.

That "other" vehicle belongs to a gentleman who had just purchased the Guards Red 964. He purchased the 964 from a dealer in Christchurch, shipped it up to Auckland, it arrived last Friday and he was keen to take it for a drive. A quick email to some of the other guys and we ended up with half a dozen cars and a place to go..........so we did! He drove the non porsche, his wife drove the 964. BTW, his test drive prior to purchase was from Chch to Hanmer and back!
Definately take your camera.........it's always good to see a bunch of lovely cars out and about.
Cheers
