I'm sure that Paolo only initiates these threads to see how far we noodniks will go off into left field. He has clearly succeeded once again, and I'd bet he's just ROTFLHAO.

Either that or he just likes to play a human pinata!

On the elevation map I posted, the elevation from the toe of the boot increases to a high point at the apex of T8, 1080', constituting a (slightly) uphill braking zone. The highest elevation at the start/finish straight is the S/F line, 1090' followed by a downhill braking zone to the apex of the 90 at1020' and then continuing downhill beyond.
Map schmapp. It's downhill. Having led countless end-of-day "track walks" at WGI when I was Chief Weenie, I can guarantee you that portion of the track is downhill. Really...go walk it sometime. The "elevation map" on WGI's site has the crest of the rise on the Sole waaaay too late...it's actually well back down the track, before the braking markers even start. Really. Hitch up your jammies and take a hike on it sometime.

As for the radius map, you correctly identify the location of T8, but the angle of that corner is without question; acute, or less than 90.
OK...by using the term "acute", you've muddled it a bit more. I think I know what you are saying, but I'll still disagree with you. To get all nautical/aeronautical on you - if you consider your beginning heading, and the heading you're on after completing the corner, you've turned, on the yaw axis, more than 90 degrees, and that's what counts. You're looking at that interior angle, aren't you ?

Yeah, I think you're right that this is only getting more confusing, and that perhaps the maps are not that accurate. I've been all around this track, on foot and on bicycle (for which I was nearly arrested) but don't actually recall where I coasted and where I peddled. Anyway, can we at least agree that T8 is sharper than T1? You do have to turn a little longer. I'm sure I go through T1 with more speed.

Gums....... I just like to start a discussion which usually pertains to some mistake of mine......
then, I just let the rest of guys crucify me
What happens after that ("RL brawl") I take no responsibility for........

Rick it was fun playing with you at the Glen.....
I do feel like the RL human pinata ...... but having now learned who to listen to and who to ignore, I have been able to pick up lots of pointers......

OK boys, that's all.....

Hmmm... I feel a poll commencing. Who's on Doc Pain's listen to list and who's not.

I'm with the prof. you crest the hill coming out of the toe before the braking zone of T8 and then it's downhill in T8 before going back up the hill for 9. If you watch a race from behind the flag tower at 9 you'll see it all perfectly.
