That was more luck than a save. That 'save' ended at the apex at which point he was along for the ride. He was way too late in straightening the wheel after the initial catch, at which point it turned into a 'tank slapper' since he was behind in his corrections.

His wheel should have straightened around the apex(~ :19) and then he would have been on his way with only loosing a few tenths.

I don't consider it a save if the car starts going back the other direction...you only get a tank slapper when you don't "save" it the first time. Once the tank starts slapping, you are way behind the car and just along for the ride. If it doesn't hit the wall, you're lucky, but it's not a save.

It really wasn't a save...I was just lucky. If you look at it in slow motion, the whole problem actually started not from not bringing the wheel back quickly enough after the first correction but from not putting enough correction in initially. When the first rotation started I thought it would be fairly mild and I put in a small amount of correction and went back to center. When that didn't work, I had to dial in a lot and fast - hence the flying hands. I was behind it the entire way from there.

let's call it a lucky, kinda, maybe, sort of save. Or, let's write an intrawebs definition for "save"

By the way, I did label it tankslapper and not a save

Not a save huh? I bet the situation would have been much better had you not touched the wheel at all and slowed down the car with the brakes

a quick pull on the e-brake would have done the trick...I could have gone right into a 360 and been on my merry way.

I've posted this one before, but here is what I think is a pretty good save (<- note feeble attempt at humility). It occurs at about the 1:25 mark as I move right to defend turn 1 as Greg Pickerall is right behind me. I enter a little too fast and the back end steps out very quickly. It took ridiculously fast hands to catch it, and though I have watched it many times, I still don't know exactly how I did it.

Sean

In deference to Greg and Bryan, good job driving it back to the paddock instead of having the wrecker bring it back for you.
