Going to install the camera and set up the unit tomorrow. Any words of wisdom?

Unit should be mounted under the vertical profile of the windshield and the upper third SHOULD be able to see the horizon through the base of the windshield.

Unit should be mounted where you can touch the screen to start the recording, after confirming the track.

Make sure you use the supplied power supply options. If using USB, not all are equal or sufficient. Use the supplied cig plug transformer (2.1A instead of 1.1A) or the hard wired transformer to a circuit with sufficient current.

On setup, the latest update dropped yesterday or the day before. If there is a red prompt in the top right of your screen when connected to WiFi, connect to power (it will prompt you, a wall brick to the tablet will suffice), DO THAT first.

Not necessary to log in or create an account for Garmin Connect.

Enter driver name, car for your profile.

Make SURE the white track camera view width box is centrally aimed.

Make sure there is NO portion of the car body is above the green boundaries in the setup screen.

Under Audio options, enable Advanced Voice Coaching. Sign the next waiver page.

Set up your Bluetooth device.

When you power up the device at any track the FIRST time of any weekend, do so a few minutes before you go out to get a good lock. Afterwards should be ok with a minute or two in the grid.

Stop the session when you’re done, let it wrap up the recording.

Go to Session Review and select for review each of the three additional tabs under the three opportunities the device has seen the greatest inconsistency in your performance in.

If you want continuity, select voice coaching for specific skill executions highlighted under the Accel/Braking, Speed and Line/Geometry tabs. If you want general info, leave it alone.

Have fun.

I'm still a newbie but what about set the "display sleep" to turn off after 10 mins? I do this so I can be on the grid and do the garmin pre-flight hit start within 10 mins of take-off. Then you have plenty of time to strap in put on gloves, plug in your cool suit etc. I can't turn on or manipulate garmin with gloves on nor reach it once belted into my car. .

Have there been any bug reports with the new update? I usually wait a while before I do any upgrades so the bugs can be worked out on my phones etc...

Not sure if the Garmin does it, but I have my S2DL and SCHD to start at 20 mph so pretty much at the blend line pitting out.

Good idea on lengthening the auto-off, FBB

dgrobs, trigger speed is greater than that on the catalyst because it needs to know you’re on track, they’ve lowered it from the initial 55 mph trigger, but still much higher.

Once you’ve rendered the overlay:
To playback a saved video with overlay on the tablet:
From the home screen, touch the video memory time estimate in the upper left.
Touch SELECT VIDEOS in the lower right. Now be patient, mine takes 10 seconds.
Touch SAVED VIDEOS button in upper right.
Scroll through list and touch video thumbnail on right.
Touch BACK when finished viewing videos.

While you can pull the mSD card and grab them, using a Windows machine, you can also access the micro SD cards from your computer using one of the supplied micro USB cables. The Catalyst will look like a thumb drive or external hard drive in MS Windows File Explorer.

The videos with overlay are saved in a Garmin\Saved Videos\ sub folder, then further organized by track, then session date/time, then session or lap number sub folders.

Sorry about the lousy picture, but I think it shows enough.

This is the 010-12530-05 mini suction mount for the camera. You can see that it adheres about 90% as shown by the black circle towards the outside. The 10% where it doesn't seal well to glass is located where the release pull tab is on that rubber. I tried cleaning glass, rubber, etc to no avail; cannot complete the suction (black circle) 100%. It now seems to hold for about 4 hrs or so and then falls off. I don't want to use the glue tabs.

What else can I try to improve holding power?

Disclaimer:
Initially it held very well, was on car for 3+ days before event. Only after moving it between cars did it start to loose grip.

Haven’t run into that one, in over a hundred sold. But, I would clean BOTH the glass and the rubber, then I would wet the circumference of the contact area and try again. The only other thing that can cause this is if the hard plastic back of the rubber cup is no longer straight.

Otherwise, replace it.

Just got off the phone with Garmin support. They agree that it shouldn't happen and are sending out a new one.

I have a 128Gb card in there - but be aware if you have an additional card, recordings go directly to that - the "internal" card is never used for recordings so its not like you are adding capacity

If you're going to put a bigger card in, I think it's a better idea to put a big single card in the bottom. The side expansion card is good for guest drivers who want to take their video with them after a run.

I put the 128Gb in the "internal" slot ... gives something like 29hrs of storage
