Garmin Automated Coaching

Today I am going to roll it out of the garage and look at the GPS Reception with different placements. A remote GPS Antenna might be a good add on. Also working on a Bluetooth adapter for my Stilo helmet. This should be a good test for me as I have a lot of laps in at Blackhawk Farms. The simplicity of the system is impressive. If it is as powerful in performance they will sell a bunch. In my other car I have a full aim system but I have never been able to use all of its power.

The latter is a SUPER common challenge for all legacy approach systems, except maybe VBOX, especially for driver performance improvement and optimization.
The BT receiver to your equipped helmet is one of the best solutions, IMO. An in-ear that is comfortable is good too. No wires. Alternately, a patch into an intercom is good.
GPS reception when the car is standing still can be misleading. When the car is underway, changing headings constantly, and the GPS is in any way marginal, you have “mid course corrections” in the plotted path in the session review.
This is true with any GPS device, especially those with internal antennas arrays (like phones, Solo 2/Solo 2 DL, VBOX Performance Box Touch and Sport without the external antenna option, the Catalyst and the Apex Pro).
The Catalyst has the internal array in the upper half of the case, and needs 140-170 degrees of horizon and a clear vertical view through the glass for optimal lock. This is why the multi arm articulated mount is included, in order to do just that.
You’ll enjoy it and get good value out of it. I am learning every day more and more ways to apply the post session information.

I’ve never used phones or cradles in cars, always dedicated GPS loggers like R-T, R-K, Traqmate, AIM, VBOX and others.
After putting in and removing these devices several times a day, a couple days a week for a decade and a half, small location changes can make large differences.
The temporary installation options are a really nice feature, but the GPS array placement does affect the quality of the data when underway.
The recommendation for placement of the Catalyst comes directly from the project lead after he saw a few photos of units in use the first week.

I have a Stilo with the integrated Coms too, it'd be great to somehow get a bluetooth receiver to integrate with that and pair to the Garmin. dgmark, please let us know when you work something out!

RMAG911 already worked out the Stilo setup in post 82. but I may skip the Bluetooth adapter and just plug the cable right into the unit with an extender cable.

That's what I think a lot of folks are doing. Also with the Roux, but that the volume was a little low in the Roux.

The display shows the amount of time left on the mSD card in time on the top left.
If you run endurance events, you can increase the size of the single card, add another 32 GB card to get to almost fifteen hours of video memory, or put bigger cards in both slots.
It does overwrite oldest, AFTER a certain period of time, AFAIK. I’ll check on that.
It saves for each session the complete raw video and audio, as well as the single stitched together optimal lap, no sound.
