If anyone gets this to work, and would produce a step by step instruction for those of us who are amateurs, it would be hugely appreciated! I'm not sure if there is a reluctance to post a DIY on this effort but I bet there is more than a few of us with crippled PDLS+ who would love to unlock it.

Hello,
A few months ago I bought a PIWIS 3 complete system from VXDAS.
https://www.vxdas.com/products/oem-p...vo-yoga-laptop
The whole story initially worked without any problems, I read out numerous Porsche vehicles, analyzed errors and sometimes also changed/programmed options.
After about 6 weeks, the dual boot partition with version 41.400 could no longer be started. When booting, the error messages "...Netwbw02.sys" or "...NDIS_Driver" always came up, which I know from Windows 8 systems in the past and which can actually be fixed relatively easily.
Emphasis is on "actually" because thanks to the blocking of all access rights, non-admin users cannot do anything on the fully configured computer...
Then a long odyssey with the VXDAS support by mail, then Whatsapp. Although they could always be reached, they were very limited in terms of intellect and the will to eliminate the error.
Long story short - in the end I sent everything back and received part of the money back barely 5 weeks later.
What remains is a loss of 200€ as well as the experience of such a system that doesn't give you any possibility of correction yourself, no longer to be considered!
Ultimately, I am quite disappointed with the company VXDAS because the error could have been easily fixed from a distance with a little good will, even the fact that the costs are not 100% covered stinks because I can't help it if their system doesn't work properly!
Now, as in the beginning, I'm looking for a problem-free and reliable PIWIS 3 solution!
Regards

Most are using 6154 as clone VCI for piwis. It is inherently slow...and clunky, but it does work.
Recently, there have been a few more clone VCI pop up, like the VCX SE, that features DOIP with added license....and even a 6154...that has DOIP. Would these be a better option ? and maybe complete a VAL for all cars ?
Work faster like oem 6154 ?

DOIP is definitely the way to go as it's portable, faster, a cheaper alternative to CANBus and since it's built on an ISO stack model easier to implement. Our CAN based 6154 even with WiFi is inherently slow leading to timeouts especially trying to generate a VAL. Though I did manage to get a VAL in both Service and RT mode it took many tries and hours wasted. Definitely interesting, thanks for pointing this out. For further explanation of DOIT, please check this link:

New to the Porsche world but have been working as a malware reverse engineer for the past 10 years, so can usually manage when talking about hacked software.
Looking for a TL;DR of 84 pages
- is it possible to install Piwis III for free on a new machine \ VM and get the other equipment myself? Not a huge fan of the idea of getting hacked piece of software from some Chinese seller

You get what you pay for. However, if you want to pay a reasonable amount with above and beyond support contact @rnlst_log

I don't mind paying for someone to save me hours of research and troubleshooting and just getting a finished working product, I am just not a huge fan of the idea of paying Chinese hackers for stolen property

So according to your first post you want free software/hardware and then you don't deal with "hackers" (I assume Chinese, Russian or Bolivian) who in this case are reverse engineers... GL

There is a difference between pirating a movie to watch in your living room alone (which is also wrong) to pirating a movie to monetize it by screening it in your backyard and selling tickets to the entire neighborhood. Not saying I won't eventually buy a ticket if it is the only place around to see the movie and I don't have any other option - but I don't think it is hard to understand why I would prefer to avoid this if possible.
