Thoughts on the new corvette?

Hating on the C8 Base model performance compared to the 911 S model is a cute trick at $35k discount. What was the difference of the lap time with the regular driver, like 0.5 seconds? Where is the base 911 in this mix? I am sure you can imagine...

I would expect the 992S to outperform the C8 stingray in terms of performance and driving dynamics given that more C8 stingray buyers will appreciate comfort and compliance more than control feedback and behavior at the limit (particularly if you consider the vette's historical fanbase and that they sell more base cars than any other trim). That said, it's a darn good start for the base platform and bodes well for the performance-focused GS/Z06, and why this debate is so compelling for this generation. The fact that this comparison is even being made (C8 Z51 vs 992S) is a testament to the potential of the platform and why, even though I'm not a buyer for the C8 stingray, I could be for the GS/Z06. If Chevy puts together a focused C8 car at the GS/Z06 level that combines sharper mid-engined driving dynamics with the excitement of a flat plane v8 for around $100k, it would be massively exciting. (Though I am hoping when they do, they clean up the rear 3/4 a bit like they did on the racecar - centermount exhausts look way better). In any event, I'm looking forward to the 992 GT3/ C8 Z06 comparison test!

Not business as usual. The C8 for the first time ever has a BETTER interior than the 911. No other Corvette has gotten that praise. No excuses. NOW when comparing apples to apples ($$$$$$) the C8 Z06 may be the first Corvette to master the 911 both on the track and on the cruise home.

The Vette “winning” that test when it flopped hard in the handling, steering and braking tests despite stickier tires is clearly GM funneling $$ in for their hype/marketing tour. Vettes always “beat” 911’s in these mag comparos due to value as well.
Same threads and hypes were happening with the C7. Perhaps even more so.

"You always know exactly how much stopping power you have left by just the feel of the pedal. It's an astonishing feat of engineering. And the 911 can do it all day, all the way to threshold."
"The Corvette makes you feel like you're in a supercar, the 911 makes you feel like you're part of a supercar."
...and here boys, is the difference.
I play a little game (bear in mind that my 911 is my DD, I take to CVS and Kroger) where I see how close I can get to the stopped car in front of me until I apply the brakes. Yes, I will probably ram someone someday, but that said I always enjoy watching the fool behind me who thinks he can keep up with a 911 apply his brakes waaaay back.
Wifey HATES my 911, even though she gets to sit in an 18-way sport seat, because, according to her, she feels every little bump, crack, and piece of gravel on the road. I've explained to her that it is part of how a supercar yields up the feel of the track, but all that time she spends driving her boat ('20 GLC300) has spoiled her to zero road feel. Yes, the 911 makes you feel like you're part of a supercar.
There is no substitute.

Very few, if any, cross shop a Vette to the 911.
It's nice Internet fodder, but not so much in real life.

Other than the interior, which I’ll have to see to believe myself (they said the exact same thing about the C7 interior, so even nothing too new there) it literally is business as usual. The base C7 was extremely competitive with the 991 S when it came out as well, and was knocked in the exact same performance metrics and chassis balance/precision comparisons that the C8 is.
The Vette “winning” that test when it flopped hard in the handling, steering and braking tests despite stickier tires is clearly GM funneling $$ in for their hype/marketing tour. Vettes always “beat” 911’s in these mag comparos due to value as well.

Only a paper racer uses HP/$ or 0-60/$ to decide on a car. There have always been cars with much better “numbers/$” than the base Cayman, yet the Cayman was still bought by many.
Judging from the first reviews, the C8’s weight, size, understeer, numb steering and brake feel should make the base Cayman competitive, depending on what the driver prefers in a sports car. Won’t even start with the C8 look that’s starting to rapidly get old the more I look at it.
Btw, there already was a thread started about this comparo test in the 992 forum:

It will always be biz as usual for porsche and vette since they're always evolving the same type car. Same for ferrari mid engine v8. But c8 going mid engine is a revolution as far as styling and driving feel. Add in the na motor and it is more competitive than ever to 911. But really need to compare c8 to base cayman at same price point. Only a rabid p fan would prefer that to c8
I hate the sound and lag from the new 718 4 banger, but Caymans/Boxsters are second to none in fun factor and balance. I’d say true car enthusiast would in fact prefer that. Though the C8 gets MAJOR points for thankfully maintaining a gloriously N/A motor.

Not sure what articles and videos you all been reading/watching. "bloated", "numb", "sedan". I must be watching different videos. this thing looks amazing and will get into the shorts of some would be P car GT buyers that are tired of all the ADM game playing BS and can actually obtain what appears to be a very worthy car.

I've owned Corvettes my entire adult life and several Porsches, but 5 of the last 7 track days in my track-modded Corvette cost me anywhere from $3000-$12,000. Never had any breakdowns in my Cayman S's. Corvette's are mass produced vehicles, Porsches are over-engineered. Not saying Porsches don't break, but the quality and durability is far superior.
That said, I love the new C8 but will not buy one until 2021 after plenty of track miles logged.

and the Lt1 crate engine is $8,500
better yet a ZR1 755hp crate motor is $17,900
i am looking only at bare blocks in the case of a spun bearing punched a rod through the block more often than not many parts are reusable except for one rod, piston, block.
most modern engines have very tight rod side and bearing clearances to be able build enough oil pressure using current fuel economy oils.
not what one wants for track when high oil volume is desired to cool bearings
thus a failed motor is an opportunity to build it right for track
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/n...0aAtyREALw_wcB
The coupon LT1/LT4 discount is no longer available but I do expect LT2 bare blocks to go for not much more than LT1 460 hp dry sump blocks
