I'm not an attorney - but from a liability perspective it seems to me it would be disastrous to accept the risk of driving a car with a known defect that is waiting for a repair, because the dealer wanted their loaner back until the part arrived.

And I doubt Porsche will give you "carte Blanche" in writing - but even if they did and then the worst happened....can you live with yourself?

I know this is a worst case scenario and maybe very unlikely - but I'd be uncomfortable with that possibility.
I wouldn't drive the car in it's current condition b/c it is a track only car and I think the dealer knows that. Hence, why my SA thinks I will just park it and drive my daily instead of loaner.

I'm past 6 weeks now and Porsche in Germany still can't provide an ETA for a new trans to arrive at the dealer. It's clear the car is going to have been down for at least 2 months by the time it gets repaired, and that's only if the trans shows up in a week.

Has anyone had 3rd fail within the past 6 weeks and already gotten the repairs completed? If so I would love to know which dealership was able to get a trans sooner. Thanks!

Took my car in for service and they had a GT4 there with a failed 3rd gear. Smh.

Hopefully this supply delay is the result of Porsche/Getrag diagnosing and testing a fix for this issue that will be incorporated into replacement gearboxes when they eventually arrive, although it seems that the fix would just be to just roll back to the previous production design. Mine was a 9/2015 build and I've already got 8K miles and 9 track days on it, so I'm hoping that if something were going to break it would have already -- at least that's what I'm telling myself so that I don't worry about this every time I drive. I do feel for the affected owners though.

I think I recall you are in the Houston area and another RL poster said they saw a GT4 in a Houston dealership recently with 3rd gear failure.

Yep I'm in Houston. I'm 5k miles in with about 3 very moderate track sessions under my belt. I'm expecting something to pop soon

In the spring when my car comes out of hibernation and I resume track events....

If I'm at an "away" track (several hours from home) and my third gear fails, I'm assuming I should not drive the car because I'd have no way of knowing what's going on and whether I might get stranded even if the other gears seem to work.

So what happens? Do I call roadside assistance? Will they flat bed me to my preferred dealer? Just curious about the protocol if I have this problem and I'm not near my local dealer (which is rather likely given the number of events I do at "away" tracks).

Fingers crossed I don't have an issue but I barely got the car broken in last season and only got a few events in before cold weather arrived.

Road assistance will tow to the nearest dealer.

Dealer notified me that PCNA has provided a late Feb / Early March for a trans replacement. PCNA told me manufacturer has found cause of trans failure and is building new transmissions.

Good news finally, if accurate information from PNCA, at least new gearboxes installed will be free of this failure mode. The PCNA contact you got this from doesn't by chance have info on what the gearbox serial numbers are or GT4 build dates are that are affected by the 3rd gear issue?

I sense a recall once they have identified affected VINs.

I wasn't told of any such information. I just hope the issue doesn't repeat itself after the new transmission.

This so much less worrisome than DLC.

Yes, the ones powering the warp capacitors in the valve train.
