I agree with Mooty on this. I purchased my first Porsche in 1970. I've never been shafted by them. Had a few differences of opinion but it has always worked out in the end.

If a car sits for 2 months waiting on a transmission they'll do something for the owner.

This is nothing compared to the 996 Carrera and Turbo 2nd gear pop out issues.

Mooty, is correct they all have issues. Unfortunately some of the fixes take forever!
Intermediate shaft bearings took 10 years to finely give up on..
Exploding air boxes on CIS cars 5yrs ( aftermarket had a fix in a year pop off valve)
Cam chain tensioners 67-84 = 17 yrs to fix.
Rubber center clutches 5 yrs .
Those are just top of mind . Carl

Seems most probable to me that Porsche doesn't recommend slicks simply because their lawyers made them do so in order to avoid liability from hydroplaning either on the track or to/from the track.

The traction difference between slicks and MPSC2 is something like 10% max if you go based on skid pad performance.

i dont think i said it is not a big deal.
inconvenience to me is a big deal.
i have had way bigger failure than just transmission.

I know Porsche will take care of it! They always make good!!!! My issue with this and the strut failures is ...... There are plenty of other cars out there without the same problem, I really want to keep my car for a long time I am just concern about what happens after the first 4 years.

slick usage has nothing to do with trans failure.
i know several cars on oem mspc2 and bridgestones in oem sizes, still failed

My issue is that there is no indication that the issue that caused the third gear to fail has been rectified by the supplier. Therefore, it is very possible that this could happen again ... For someone who intends to keep this car for the long run, that bothers me. Either fix the issue itself instead of providing the same faulty transmission or provide assurance that any failures in the future will be covered by PCNA. I don't think it's greedy to ask for a longer warranty limited to the transmission if this happens again...

Ok, I've created the updated version of the failure database spreadsheet and sent the info to steve0827 for him to add to the sticky.

I've also sent a bunch of PMs to various users who had info in their posts that referred to other cars with 3rd gear failures that need clarification so we can add them to the list if they are missing, and so we can prevent duplicate entires in the database.

Also sent some PMs requesting some more info about the failures posted if minimal or no info was provided so far, so we have a more complete picture of what's happening.

I think based on my update, if clarifications are received from everyone I requested it from, there may be around 20 unique 3rd gear failures that have happened to, or are known by, Rennlist users. All have occurred on the track, or with cars that have had track use, based on the info provided so far. Tires appear to make no difference. Most have occurred at 6,500 total ODO miles or below and with 15 or fewer track days. And all so far are 2016 build/delivery cars.

When the missing and requested data has been provided for the database, we will have a more complete picture.
