My daily drivers are so fun as it is that I don’t suffer either way (BMW Z4 M40i and soon to arrive Dodge Durango Hellcat that replaced my Jeep Trackhawk). To each their own.

On a side note, Covid made it so I basically drove 45k miles on my Jeep Trackhawk for only a 15% loss in value (if my ex-girlfriend wasn’t trying to hang on to the car after I broke up with her, I could have had 90% of the value back with around 45k miles). Sort of nuts…
what is it like driving a track hawk? Can it actually put the power down to the tarmac? Can the Durango hellcat also? Some SUVs these days are nuts.

It can put the power down. I was getting 0-60 in 3.5s with it. Hellcat is apparently the same to .1s faster. I wouldn’t have traded for another one if they didn’t. They’re fun sleepers. No one expects it at the stoplight.

Plus, the Hellcat Durango can tow around 8700 lbs. I want to get an Airstream for it at some point.

So many people here pretending that these cars went up in isolation, relative to every other car + certain luxury groups. Things are cyclical, these will shift up and down and this phenomena isn't 997 GT Specific. There is a whole other world outside of the 997 GT3/RS Cars to Speculate On Thread.

If you're lucky enough to own one (or multiple) of these things and spout about how they're the best drivers car in the world, maybe there should be more driving and less time justifying a monetary value to the internet

10k miles in 2 years driving my RS. Don’t know what you are talking about. Driven all the cars of this generation and it’s the King of the hill by a mile. It’s ok to admit when something is this good

that is crazy. At least for me, I could never justify getting an suv with that much horsepower. But it’s cool to hear they are fun sleepers. I think the only suv I would shell out money for is a macan. Those things drive like small cars. Once again, porsche does not make a bad car.

I am curious to drive a 991.2 manual gt3. I know those that have driven both have typically preferred the 997 especially in this forum...lol, but I'd like to personally compare. I'm ok with it being bigger (still small - think Honda civic) but curious about other aspects.

I'm not sure I agree whole heartedly @idk_alex , though no one will ever accuse me of being a financial expert. Yes everything's gone up in this insane market right now, but the majority are for somewhat different reasons in my view (i.e. lack of new car availability in most cases), where as at least for me, as a very recent first time GT3 owner, I think that some of the rise in value of older GT3's is due to many genuine drivers not looking forward to the future of driving cars (or even not driving cars) without the same level of emotional connection. The chip shortage will end, but will new cars suddenly discover how to connect with drivers again? I personally hope these things don't keep going up in value, as I want more people like myself who've dreamed about a GT3 for the last 20 years to have a chance to own the dream, not just wealthy collectors.

Plus I'd be worried about my wife finding out that it's gone up in value and telling me to sell because she wants a nice house or something. Much easier to say I can't afford to sell right now, prices are down see... If someone ever comes up to me in front of her and makes me a great offer I'll be a very very unhappy camper.

Are these things the best drivers car in the world though? Not sure, I've not had the chance to drive all the best. On most roads I'd chose my old tatty '73 Alfa GTV to be honest, as it also has loads of character and I can have fun at it's limits within the speed limit, but when I do get a chance to take a few corners properly in the GT3 I'll admit it makes me giggle out loud like no car has previously.
Can't drive the car all day though, so still time to engage in the peripheral discussion (such as this)!

Best driver’s car probably has an analog manual with mid-engine vs. a rear engine. But, you likely lose speed going to any real world corollaries, which adds the subjective factor of balance vs. speed.

I loved the Lotus Elise I owned in 2005. Exige S240 I traded it in for was faster, but nowhere near as fun. Having the top down definitely added to the engagement for me, so I suppose there is that subjective aspect to it as well if you like the feel of the wind blowing through your feathers.

Then there is the engine note…

I guess my preferences above are predictable when you consider the 997.2 3RS and 458 Spider are my two overall lasting favorites.

I can attest to the above. Lotus are amazing, connected and raw but there is something about the GT3 overall feel and that Mezger sound…….

I loved my Exige S260 when I had it particularly on the track and on spirited back road drives. Really wasn’t a fun car to drive around on the street normally as it was very raw and visibility was extremely poor. You could take off the roof with tools, but I never did unfortunately. I only had it for a year or so because I wanted something more streetable plus I missed owning a Porsche. That’s when I got my .2 GT3.

Grey/Red .2 RS with 6900 miles. PCCB, FAL, full leather with red deviated stitching, and no dashboard wart. $162k original MSRP. No price listed on their website as Canepa never does. From what I know, Canepa sells top notch cars but they definitely make you pay for them.

Car was at CNC when it had 6300 miles and according to their listing, the car has full PPF and all original paint.
