Even Porsche’s newer analog cars aren’t truly that analog anymore. The 997.2 GT3RS 3.8 and 4.0 are true driver’s gems. Rise, fall, speculate, whatever. I don’t see anything else out there that I would like to have in my garage to replace it, and the only other car I think is worth owning besides that nowadays is a 458 Spider or Aperta for the last great NA sound through the small back window.

If my kids, some accidents in pedestrian vehicles, and a handful of speeding tickets didn’t tank my insurance (one company dropped me!), I’d still have my 458 Spider in the garage next to my 997.2 RS. My insurance was even capped at a ceiling at one point.

Ain’t nothing like the real thing baby…

You're right, it's the same car. He pulled it from Switchcars and now it's listed as a private party sale on Autotrader.

Yes, but over last year dealer lots are mostly empty due to new car shortages; forcing entire market to buy used; there is definately artificial demand created from that. look at how even stock used cars with miles are at or above MSRP on dealer lots. once this goes away as new cars are added again and normalized production the entire tide will drop including the 997 market. however, i do agree, 997s will hold up way better vs say 991s which will be hit hard once 992's are made in actual numbers and hitting dealers. i agree, most will not trade 997 for 992; maybe add; but say there are 5-10 on market now and some are sitting; in 6-12 months there may be 8-12 on market with slightly less demand as new cars are available and many not-so-enthusiast buyers move on to chase the new-new; causing some downward pressure on values.

That's how I look at it as well. You will likely see a correction in 997 values as things normalize, but it will be nothing like what we see in the 991 and overall car market.

Every single used car going up in price is for sure gonna get corrected. But that’s a huge difference between what’s available from the everyday cars to something of a very specific type of car like a GT Porsche. Porsche built over 3000 turbos from 95-98 and those cars are asking well over 200k some close to 300k. 997 GT3 RSs are more rare and easier to own. I don’t agree that the prices will fall on any of these models. What is coming that will replace them?

The 997.1 GT3 is my dream but if they get to ridiculous prices and 991 (especially .2) cars get to reasonable prices I wouldn't say no to one of them. I guess we'll see

Also, keep in mind, no one who bought a 997 in last 12 months in this bubble will sell any time soon. only sellers are those who bought pre-covid at much lower prices and who have watched market go up and will be chasing it to sell at a profit as it goes back down. As these cars get absorbed at new higher prices, a new base will be set limiting downside setting new base price for market. this is good for 997 as it wont take too many cars sold to set the base and numbers are low vs say 991 where there are too many cars for sale and bottom is much lower as for any new base to form wold take years of turnover.

I need to unsubscribe from this thread. It's too depressing for someone who doesn't have a 997 in his garage right now.

When I bought my GT3 I also put offers on the RS... looked at a few of them. It came down to one thing... am I buying this car because I want the best example of this generation... or am I buying it to drive. With very few outlets in my life the answer was clearly to 'drive'. So I asked myself how long would it take me to get good enough at driving the GT3 to justify my move up to an RS etc. The realistic answer is... my entire life.

I know for a fact that I would think twice about putting miles on an RS, not because I can't afford the depreciation... but because I have a rare example of something I respect.

Like a lot of things, shopping for something like this is part of the experience... but it wasn't until I actually owned one did I realize that any minute spent not in the seat is a minute I lost, find your own budget but don't let it become a never ending unicorn you can't quite catch. When my dads elbow started getting sore and his knees were achy after driving manuals I knew that my time would come, when I'm 70 I'll get an RS... today I'll drive.

I can completely understand the hesitation to drive these when you think the miles will hurt the value. Don’t know how else to say it but the real value is driving them. The money made/lost can be made in other ways. What else can you do to simulate the experience of an hour or 2 behind the wheel? I don’t know what my future holds, but it was very satisfying experiencing an RS. I’m having a difficult time with the idea of letting mine go.................................... Damnit

I think that the current car bubble is for mostly mass produced cars. Low production cars like the GT cars will hold and probably keep climbing in price, specially the 997 ones that were sold in lower quantities. If you have one or drive one you will realize that the 997 GT cars were undervalued. Heck, I’m still waiting for the Rolex SS sport watch market to drop. It only keep climbing and the pieces are almost impossible to get at MSRP.

I barely drive my 997.2 3RS. Mostly because I have other toys. When I do, I love every second of it. It makes the experience that much more special to me. People enjoy things in different ways. I don’t knock people who like to drive their RS 24/7, and don’t feel it is fair to assume people who don’t drive it often don’t have a different way of enjoying their wheel time. My daily drivers are so fun as it is that I don’t suffer either way (BMW Z4 M40i and soon to arrive Dodge Durango Hellcat that replaced my Jeep Trackhawk). To each their own.

On a side note, Covid made it so I basically drove 45k miles on my Jeep Trackhawk for only a 15% loss in value (if my ex-girlfriend wasn’t trying to hang on to the car after I broke up with her, I could have had 90% of the value back with around 45k miles). Sort of nuts…
