I just want to say it sucks to read you guys review the car in this thread when there is snow outside… I find myself going to the garage just to verify I *could* go on a drive if it wasn’t 26 degrees

We took these out today to do some filming for work. The white is mine. Red I just bought for a friend. The blue I’m selling for a friend. The 997 GT3 is the perfect balance of visceral feel and drivability. The more time I spend in them the better it gets. The 991 and 992 you have to be really driving them hard for them to feel exciting. When you’re just cruising it feels like a Prius compared to a 997 with a Mezger.

RE: Sharkwerks, IMO none of their parts (or anyone elses AM offerings) will to be "collectible", the OEM stuff is what will be.

Need something in the middle, which is their TI muffler... eventually going that route.
How does the volume of the Dundon headers and loud muffler compare to stock side mufflers and a rear bypass? Considering going Dundon but don’t want to lose a ton of volume from my GMG bypass

I had a SW bypass before and it’s louder now with the valves open. Valves closed it’s about the same.

I personally didnt like my GMG cmb, but I did also have a Soul that sounded perfect. Tough to explain in words but I think the bypasses with side mufflers sound great. However the valve functionality is horrible and the on/off and transition sound bothered me so much. I also see a lot of benefit from deleting the massive side mufflers. If I didnt, i think a bypass and valve controller would be great. Volume wise, I think Dundon loud is quieter than a bypass at WOT but louder in the midrange.

Yeah, I don’t particularly love the GMG either which is why I’m considering switching. I think it sounds great at WOT but the transition with the valves is jarring as you said and I’d like a better pitch in general.

when you guys say "transition", is that the 3k / 4k valve opening as you accelerate? ... If so, can I just say that I assumed everyone here got rid of that. I know I did 5 yrs ago when I first bought mine. That was obnoxious and was the first thing to go on my car. I went with the Carnewal, but others have also done the same with Valvetronics.

I’ve tried a few exhaust combos in search of the best balance of volume, note, and lack of drone. The valves are necessary to eliminate drone between 2-3k rpm. If you do a lot of cruising on the street and in traffic, they’re a must IMO.

Stock headers + Stock side mufflers + Sharkwerks center
This sounded good at WOT the difference between on/off nature of the valve operation drove me crazy.

Stock headers + Stock side mufflers + Soul center
Similar but had a more refined, rounded tone vs the SW’s more aggressive tone. Same issue with the valves.

Stock headers + JCR valved side deletes + JCR silenced center
This really sounded great, but had fitment issues on install, and the drone was unbearable. I don’t think the tiny silencers they use on the center section do anything at all.

Stock headers + Dundon valved side deletes + Stock center muffler
This is the best setup I ran with stock headers. Valve operation was less on/off. Much more gradual transition and great sound with no drone. Wanted more volume ultimately.

Dundon street headers (cats + valves) + Dundon Loud muffler
Current setup and wish I just started here. Hands down the best setup of all. Noticeable power increase and the sound is incredible. Definitely pretty loud, but it’s a GT3.

I went the free route and just unplugged mine.

Hard to compare as it’s a different note, there is a reason you can recoup 80% of cost when you resell Dundon, however that remaining 20% is still more $ than the entire GMG system cost

ok ill stop and try and pull this back to the for sale thread. I think if a 997 has sprung to put in Dondon and its for sale I immediately think the owner obsesses more than most and it’s therefore worth more I love it so much I put it on my $100k GT3 years ago at almost 15% of the cost of car at the time.

Unless ofc it’s a 992, in that case it means your just rich and have ADD

I have full length, 200 cells and Gert modified sides no valve operation. It's quiet, like stock but deeper when putting around but as soon as you stab on the gas, it's crazy loud. Too loud for the streets and it's an on an off transition. You folks who couldn't handle the center muffler delete valve transition wouldn't do well with this unit. I like it because I can howl in the canyons and on the highway and be quiet when the popo comes for me.

In California we have a new noise ordinance law where it's a $1,000 fix it ticket. But the rub is after you fix it, which is required, you still have to pony up the $1,000. Hate to say it, I'm all for that as too many daily driven Hemis in town causing so much noise pollution it's become a nuisance.

why not just fix this one ^^ with a Carnewal (or valvetronics) ... its awesome sound {& inexpensive} with the valves open from idle upward (& ya get to be quiet at all rpms whenever you want too)

That’s a pretty good solve. But overall I think the side mufflers are an inherently flawed design. They’re heavy and trap a ton of heat.

IMO valved side deletes with a stock center section is better cost effective setup that balances the on/off operation with less compromise than side mufflers with a center delete. And it’s 100% reversible if you’re into that.

I’ve had the Jcr Valved side muffler deletes with stock center on a 997.1 RS. The drone was just enough to annoy me. Stock side mufflers with Sharkwerks center bypass is much better in my opinion.
