At what price do you think it would be a good buy?
The asking price is fair. If it checks out mechanically and you can see the service records in Carfax, I would say anywhere under $38K is a good deal. It has updated wheels and steering wheel, and a nice group of options. It looks to be in great shape, except maybe the shift ****.

I need a zero option 997.1/2 C2S for $25-30k with sub 40k miles and an interior a gypsy has been living in so I can gut it for a track car.

I'm the one that put this car on Carmax 'hold' yesterday early afternoon, as soon as it came up on my daily search. Well before it was posted here. It's local to me and definitely is a bit of a unicorn. I will be taking a close look at it in a few hours.

The accident was minor rear bumper damage when the car had about 3,000 miles on it. No airbags deployed, no frame damage, paintwork limited to bumper cover only.

Dealer serviced, full records, zero modifications. Hopefully it is as clean as it looks in the pictures.

Any thoughts on the price? If not for the carfax ding, I think it would be a steal at $45K... With the damage report, probably market but as mentioned, a manual Targa 4S is extremely uncommon. I think there were less than 500 997.1 Targa 4S's sold in to the US, but lots of them were tips.

I agree with your view on pricing. $45K is reasonable.

Looks to be a good price. Buy the Maxcare warranty too. I got my 911 at carmax and quite happy with it. A good detail and cleaning and a few odds and ends and thats all it needed. If you buy it, go to a Porsche dealer and get a good ppi, to see what it costs if anything to get it up to spec. Take that estimate and go back to Carmax and they will pay for it. Mine was missing the manuals, leather holder for them, needed a cupholder, and one stone guard. I got them to pay for all of that after I bought it. You take them the receipts and they hand you the cash.

I'd be happy with $45k, and I'm pretty dang frugal Even better if you can get some documentation on that little accident so that you can verify it was minor, when its time to sell.
Doesn't carmax give you some kind of warranty as well? If so, 45k looks even better.

Yup, the deal with carmax is no PPI's before purchase, but you have five days to return it, so you can presumably do the inspections post purchase.

I'd be surprised if they pony up for manuals, cupholders, stone-guard, etc. as a matter of policy, though it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask. I do know if you point out anything that is out of compliance with their "125+ point Certified Quality Inspection", like brakes, tires, etc, they will remedy the situation.

Yep. People hate on CarMax but they are the way to go.

They really don't know much about Porsches. So once you buy it....if you find something that needs corrected. They will pay to fix it. They really hate to take cars back given the hassle it is to them to take it back. They sell on volume, thats how they make money on cars. Dealers sell on price. But yes, after I bought the car....I needed the manuals, the leather holder, stone guard, and the cup holder. I bought it all from Suncoast, went to Carmax with receipts and they paid me cash on the spot. The limit on the manuals is 300 or so. All my items added up to close to 450, as the cupholder is darn expensive! But they don't pay for floormats and I had to buy some. I got the Cocomats.

It all works out in the end - you can pay a non-negotiable price and go back later and ask that they fix or pay for what is wrong or you get a PPI and negotiate a price based on the cost to fix or pay for what is wrong.

Haven't heard the price/options for the warranty yet. Is it based directly on purchase price? Is it a fixed price like their cars, or do they try and mark it up for additional profit like so many new car dealers do on extended warranties?

It's based on mileage and the history of that model. Plus the deductible if any and length of contract be it miles or time. I'm guessing for an 07 for three years or say 75 k miles it's going to be 2500 to 3k price. But you dont know till you sit with the sales guy and go over it. All work is done by a Porsche dealer and it's inclusionary
