If the car is tiptronic that gets throw off a bit, on the other hand a 2005 tip should be dirt cheap. And many launch vehicles are very well equipped.
That's false. The Launch editions were the first 330 built of the 997 series - pretty sure they all can be upgraded to a ceramic bearing (mine was) - and even if you found that you had the later bearing already from factory than you wouldn't even need to change it so this is a moot point.

This 997.1 C4S with AeroCup Kit looks like a lot of 997 for the money. Only 68.9k miles, and they say they had the engine completely rebuilt, and it has a clean title. Looks nice in the photos. Do your due diligence, but this one might be might be a winner for somebody, at $44.9k...

There are very few M96/M97 engine rebuilders I would trust... Not exactly an American V8 that any competent machine shop can rebuild.

That was always my assumption. Launch edition = Model year 2005.5 = serviceable single-row IMS bearing.

You guys would rather have the serviceable but higher failure rate single row than the later, non-servicable but much lower failure rate IMSB?

Not me...

that's the easiest part to check out. We have a couple of qualified techs here in the Orlando area (Porsche Certified techs) now independent with good build records. I'm sure there are reliable rebuilds in So Cal. This is not rocket science. And 997 engines are not evolving technology. I'm an engineer and it would not bother me, if I can verify the shop and tech who rebuilt it.

The interior looks with the Tiptronic selector and the beer belly steering wheel are kinda awful, though.

If you don't like gray on red, Ebay to the rescue:

All are 2008 997.1 Turbo manual

Meteor Grey on Black. Has the telephone module for PCM, who-hoo!

What else we got?

Somebody said the first one would be better as black on red. Here you go:

Lots and lots of Carbon fiber, including door sills and rear center console (first time I see that, I should put option "XMJ" on my must-have list).

Great written ad with complete information, very convincing. Please note, however, that according to my records this car was for sale for $2000 less in November. I would have to look up whether it changed dealers.

Another manual 2008 Turbo.

Black on black, auction with reserve not met by private seller, supposedly, although pictures are from a McLaren dealer. Pulling up detailed history might be in order. Basic report is paid for an accessible in the auction.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-Porsche...m=152420073374

Nice interior with thicker steering wheel and all white dials inside black full leather.

Aftermarket intake?

Nice suit.

Another blackie, 2008 stick shift turbo. Wouldn't say it is a great deal based on price and miles. Still, solid car.

$68,500 @ 42,000 miles, down from MSRP $146,495. Don't buy those things new!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-Porsche...m=262835027353

Convertible roof fabric maybe a bit beaten?

Default 2012 C4S coupe

Not real cheap ($69k), but a very low mileage(18k), nicely-optioned ($127k MSRP), 2012 basaltic black-on-black, 6MT, C4S coupe, from CA dealer.

Another data point -

2010 Turbo Cab PDK w/ ~48k miles (1 owner, clean Carfax, non-CPO, original MSRP of $170k) purchased on 1/12/17 in the Northeast. Car had clear bra installed all around and was in immaculate condition (only slight scrape marks on the chin spoiler). It also had a brand new set of rear tires and a new battery installed in December of 2016.

Dealer list price was $74k.

Here's the lowest priced C4S I've seen. No vin listed so can't pull a build sheet or carfax but under $30k for a 2008 C4S with 90k miles sounds pretty reasonable...
