i'm assuming TT-911 has a later build '08 with the newer '09+ steering module (as well as rear control module), while mk3boy/halo777 has a 2008 that's built in '07 with the older modules.

mk3boy, do you have the part numbers for your steering module (and rear module)? i can quickly determine if it's the newer (or older) one.

Durametric info : http://www.durametric.com/modelfeaturematrixv6.aspx#997

2008, the same year as Michael's car I believe.

Default steering wheel swap

Already have the correct 997.2 circular airbag since these can't be returned so this should be a straight plug and play swap with no PIWIS programming required? During my original visit to the dealer i was told that my wheel was at fault and I believed them as i did buy it second hand however now i'm thinking this was not the case. Once i receive my new wheel are there any words of advice you think i should be communicating to my dealer so that this time the swap is successful? This is ridiculous but i hate my current multi-function triangular wheel especially for DE events.

I too have a 2009 6 speed and bought a 2nd hand, non-multi-function wheel. I installed myself with no issue except horn did not work. (Not a problem with binding). Took to dealer. Dealer blamed the wheel said "won't work" with this new steering wheel. Took me back into the shop and explained that the wiring harnesses were different on the two wheels etc etc.

After reading threads here, I pushed hard for them to turn multi-function "on" via PIWIS ... Eventually they agreed... And voila.... Worked first time. Tech said "learned something new". No other work required. This worked for me. Hope it works for you (horn still working , 3 months later).

myw, why didn't you ask me !

I installed a .2 GT3RS wheel a very long time ago in my 997.1

You definitely need the .2 module for the Horn to work and your Airbag light to be Off.

I had a buddy install and the dealership programmed the Airbag light.

mk3boy, regarding your post #77:

Not very wise to publish personal information such as full name, phone #, home and email addresses out in the open. True, forum members are a select and upscale group but you never know where this type of personal information might wind up.

Sorry for the admonishment but having recently retired after 44 years in the banking industry and specifically in I/T, things like this just jump on me.

Has anyone installed a 991 sport steering wheel in a 997.1? Are they different than 997.2 wheels?

http://suncoastparts.com/product/991SD.html
vs.
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/480GTSL.html

I have a 2008 C2S - prod month 12/2007 with factory multifunction wheel.

they have a diff part number, but they do physically mount that is for certain.

the trick is wondering if it can properly communicate with the necessary 997.2 module for the horn/airbag and electronics to work... which nobody as far as i know has confirmed.

If I recall correctly, the horn won't work when you swap from a .1 wheel to a .2 wheel unless you take a .2 steering wheel module to your dealer for coding. You need to download the data off the .1 module and upload it to the .2 module.

I bought my wheel for $200, but with the cost of an airbag ($600-900) and a module ($150-250), I'm going to spend damn near $1,000 for a f***ing steering wheel.

I can hear all my racing buddies laughing at me.
I am in the exact same boat...love everything about my car except the steering wheel. It is a crime that Porsche would sell a car with such a lame steering wheel. Drove my wife's Honda CR-V and was thinking how much better it is compared to the Targa. If you replace your wheel please post details so I can follow your lead!

Gents. I have a flawless black leather paddle shift wheel. Purchased as a new take off (Cayman R) with under 100 miles on it. It was in my car which was maybe driven 5 times. Car is sold, wheel is mint and looking for a new home. This one does work in the 2009's though the indicator lights are not supported by 2009's.

Car: 2008 Carrera S
From: Factory Multifunction Steering Wheel
To: Sport Design Steering Wheel

Straight swap, horn works, no coding required!

that's awesome!

you must have a late 08 build. I'm guessing you also have the newer 2009+ steering module, as well as the 2009+ rear + front modules as well.
