It is curious to me how switching the multifunction on in the DME would make the horn work ... Maybe I will ask the dealer.

The moment you do that your horn will work.

Your Porsche dealer can do it with his PIWIS computer. He'll look at you like you're a fool because your steering wheel does not have the MF feature.

Kindly insist

When he's done you'll both be amazed the horn magically works.

Maybe duramtric can activate MF steering as well, I don't know.

my 2008 with working horn LOL

I didn't, since I've seen posts about people not having to. I've found one if I need to buy one, but we'll try the coding trick first.

nwGTS graciously allowed me to fit his Sport Design wheel off his GTS onto my 997.1 when we were trying to figure out if the swap would work without coding.

I admit, I didn't want to take it back off, either.

I think the Volcano Gray spokes of the normal 997.2/991.1 wheel work with the Volcano Gray trim in my car, though.

I tried this and it worked for me too - insist that the Porsche tech activates multi-function (for those with non-multifunction wheels). I have a 2009 C2 and went from the old wheel to new, pictured below.

The installation was easy - did it myself with help from a couple YouTube videos but the horn would not work.. $129 charge from the dealer to activate multi-function and I was done...No new control module required.

I have a 997.2 with the ugly triangular multifunction wheel, and want to swap over to the newer wheel +2010 wheel without the multifunction. Is there any reason why this solution wouldn't work In my scenario?

Hi, looks great but what type of costs are involved?

I bought it second hand from Rennlist Classifieds for $1100 USD - arrived in perfect condition - plus the $129 at the dealer to activate. I am trying to sell my triangle wheel/bag now and hope to get enough from that sale to bring the total cost down under $1000. Buying new from Suncoast would be a little more than double the cost.

jcsomerv, nice swap!

That is a huge improvement over the triangle.

For you it is just a straight swap , no programming required.

Thanks gents, appreciate it... and the pictures don't even do it justice - the look is just waaayyyy better in every respect, and obviously the 'feel' is night and day too. Very happy with the result.
