yup, seems like the whole VW group went to this material instead of abs plastic for underbody panels. I prefer the abs plastic but with the carbon fiber backing at the front (where the most pressure will be) it’s really quite rigid
Nice! Did the rubber string piece that keeps it from falling come with it? Or did you have take it off the original cap?
It actually came with two rubber cords with the rings to attach to the cap, one short, one longer, along with a new grommet and pin to attach it to the car. I used the new longer one, so it hangs on the hook when you take the cap off. I guess the shorter one is if you don't want to use the hook, but it would still dangle a little, so I don't fully understand the point of that one.

It's amazing how much bigger the 991's and even the 718's look compared to the 997's...
I was able to get a good amount of work done on this 997.1 Carrera S that I'm building for a customer.
Electric kill switch wired in
Tarett Solid rear subframe bushings installed
Rear subframe wire wheeled and inspected for cracks
Fabricated block off plates for where the heater core once and HVAC unit used to pass through the firewall.
Made nice passthrough in firewall for remote accessory fuse panel
Reinstalled front cowl and wiper assembly
Test ran engine
Customer did not want mufflers- the cats are gutted... I purposely left in the muffler side hangers since I assume I will be adding mufflers after the shakedown.
Next is the interior, brakes (Girodisc with Ferodo). All of this is easier said than done, the interior being tedious with re-routing wiring, installing rivnuts and cable holders to make it look professional etc.
Completed Convertible Top Maintenance, including adding hydraulic fluid. Thanks to dgjks6 (https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...tible-top.html) for the instructions, pictures, and sources for the hard-to-find lubricants. And thanks to You-tuber MASS PROJECT for the video on adding Hydraulic fluid.
I swapped my clear lens/amber bulb side marker lights for a set of LED lights from Rennline. My car is now 100% free of incandescent bulbs (with the exception of the instrument cluster). Once the swap was done I reprogrammed the lights to function only as turn signals instead of running lights.

I have been on the fence about switching my incandescent bulbs over to LED? I did it on the interior for the most part, license plate lights….but I’ve held off on tail lights, corner, and “fog lights”.
@TerrestrialFlyte The lines of the 997 are so timeless, the shape takes the updating lighting quite well, it doesn't look out of place or mis-fit at all to my eye. I'm fighting the urge to spend $2k on Morimoto's LED headlights as well. I feel like there are other areas of my car that would benefit more from $2k (like an aerokit front bumper) but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I’m right there with you. I was looking at those the other day. I have this “it should be OEM” stream of thought running thru my mind, but also, technology has come a ways since 2006, why not take advantage?
I was reading Morimoto's documentation and they seem to call out that the bi-xenon headlights are likely to cause errors which may or may not be easy to clear. Worth considering if you have an S car or the Bi-Xenon option. From their installation guide:
These Morimoto headlights are designed to properly function on 997.1 and 997.2 with OEM single projector headlights. These Morimoto headlights will work on 997’s with OEM dual projector headlights but you will get a few error codes that some professional shops with the proper software may be able to code out of the car.
