Default How to properly maintain convertible top

I assume this applies to the boxsters and 996's also. Anyway, it's my last day of vacation and I have been planning on doing this a while. Not really tech savvy or especially motivated so this will be several posts as I work though it.

This service should be done every 2 years or 20K miles.

First problem is getting the correct lubricants.

I could not find them in the US, so I'm improvising after a lot of research.

Osixo Anti squeak 557 is a fluorinated lubricant?
This is the closest thing I could find

The krytox GPL, I found this

Name: photo90.jpg
Views: 4285
Size: 1.89 MB
Name: photo605.jpg
Views: 4283
Size: 1.93 MB

And for the control optitemp, I found it was a lithium grease so I got this

Size: 1.86 MB

Ok. That's the first post. Now off to try to follow the instructions on the manual

Thanks for posting this. Can you post pics of what locations to apply the grease to after you’re done?

And the conversation with my wife when she gets home and sees the top in the service position -

Name: photo190.jpg
Views: 4259
Size: 2.01 MB

She asks - what are you doing
To which I reply - lubricating and maintaining the top
And she says - great, this is how we break things...

Ok next step

Which took me forever to find and they are small plastic pieces already with a layer of grease on them

Name: photo942.jpg

Size: 1.50 MB
Name: photo867.jpg
Views: 4303

I could never find number 3
I think I found the piece but it had no grease on it. The krytox gpl is a grease and the other stuff is a clear liquid, but I thought I could feel some grease on one of the bars and I could not, so I skipped that one.

One more step to come

To OP, I was just about to start a thread on what "alternative" lubricants people were using to do the routine maintenance and stumbled on this thread. Very much appreciated!!!

Now to order the lube and get it off my to-do list.

Thanks for this post! The only thing I would add is that #3 item is simply the rubber seal that goes all the way around. Lithium grease applied and wipe down with a rag after to prevent it from staining the top and surrounding metal

This is great. Thanks.

I do get this rubbing like noise when I close my top, passenger side. Totally quiet on opening. I did lube the hinges, suspect it’s the spindle bearing. Is the service position just half way to opening or closing? Sorry for the newbie question. Thx again.

Very useful.
Thank you.
I have just noticed my cab top squeaking in the last 5k miles or so.
