I'll keep an eye out too- yours is a seal grey 06 C2S too right, but a coupe? I have seen one out there a few times passing by going the other way over Panoramic...

Good times- Dan

Yup, you got it. With the BBS rims in my avatar.

I'm thinking about driving Panoramic this weekend but I'm not sure if it's still moist out there and if hwy 1 is still shut down

Default New tires...what a difference

I've only had my 09 C4S for about 6 weeks and maybe 800 miles or so. But one thing that was immediately clear to me is that the P Zeros had to go! They were incredibly loud, and even with temps in the mid to low 40's, they really rode rough. Very little compliance. After 1 or 2 quick drives with the temps in the 30's, I knew they had to go.

Also, while they had very little tread wear (about 10k miles), they were mfd in late 08, so I was not comfortable with the aging rubber, especially since I don't know how/where the car was stored.

Now, the big challenge for me is that I live in Manhattan, and I don't have access to a place to store a second set of wheels, nor do I have a safe place to do my own wheel swaps. So after some research, and a brief email exchange with Damon at Tire Rack, I decided to try some all-seasons.

Yes, I did say all-seasons! Don't flame me!

Seriously, there have a been a lot of improvements in the ultra high performance all season tire space over the last few years. And given that I'm not likely to be going to a track, these represent a good compromise for me. 80-90% of the capacity of a summer tire on dry roads, with decent cold and wet performance and even tolerable in light snow. The car is not a daily driver, but my free time is so rare that I want to be able to use it whenever I have time, summer or winter unless it's really snowy and messy out.

Both Bridgestone and Continental make UHP all seasons for our cars, albeit in a slightly narrower 295 rear as opposed to the 305's that came on it. After some reading, I selected the Conti DWS, largely based on the reviews that cited a quiet and comfortable ride. Living in NYC, that "comfort" translates into less chance of bending a rim on our street craters (pothole is too mild a word!). I ordered: 235x19/35 front and 295x19/30 rear. Installation was handled quickly and easily at Formula Motorsports in Long Island City, just across the river from me.

The final verdict: well, my 5-yr old daughter gives them two thumbs up. For the first time, she actually enjoyed riding in my car!! The very first time she rode in it with me, she threw up 5 times in a 55 mile trip. (And no, it wasn't my driving! LOL). After that whenever we had to go anywhere she would start chanting "Volvo! Volvo! Volvo!" because she didn't want to ride in my p-car. But after the new tires, she loves it. Says it's much more comfortable than before. And I'd GLADLY trade some high end performance for having my 5 yr old want to ride with me on weekends!

I'll be interested to see how these tires do. And no, I won't be surprised if I end up buying a set of dedicated summer tires, but that's a decision I can make this summer or next.

Finally, just for the heck of it, here's a photo. (It doesn't show the new tires, but posts are always better with photos, right?)

Panoramic is mostly dry however HWY 1 will be closed for at least a few months SE of Muir Beach.

David speaks the truth, but it's not a terrible or profound loss, really only the super twisty canyon bit past Zen Gulch is closed. I tend to stay clear of the coastal area on the weekends as it's heavy with minivans & priuses, but if you get out there before 8:30am or simply pull off and wait, you can definitely find large pockets of "no cars". Just be thoughtful as LE tend to hang in their usual haunts, (the ridge above slide ranch, and in the pockets along Bolinas Lagoon especially, and the Bootjack lot & the occasional hairpin on panoramic) - but it is still gorgeous & open basically from Pelican Inn & The Muir Woods turn off heading north. Getting THRU muir woods on a Saturday can be torture as the twisty road down into the valley is generally slower than walking pace behind what appears to be a world record setting Prius, Honda Odyssey, Subaru Forester parade. You can literally hear NPR talk radio vibrating through the forest.

Another consideration is that many tourists do not speak english, and the net takeaway is that they certainly do not READ english, so all of the signage begging slower drivers to use the (many & ample) turnouts are generally unheeded...

That said, we may still see you out there if we rally today.

Alas no, I didn't see any celebrity whilst there, Internet or otherwise. Still quite a bit of theater, though. There were a couple guys in dirt bikes performing various acts of mischief (once the CHP who was hanging out finally left).

Nice photo's, I'm having difficulty naming the color on your car. It appears somewhere between silver and meteor grey, and I like it!

Where is your "snake" located? Is there any video?

We have a "Snake" here on the east coast as well.

This is what it looks like from a Caymans' perspective.
