...and it's heavier than the 9A1.

A GT3 replacement engine is about $35k, more than twice a new 9A1 engine (new, not reman).
Keep in mind that the link goes to the Intl. Brochure. I suspect there will be deviations for the US like there always are. For one, count of TPMS to be standard as it is now on all Porsche models in the US. I also doubt the 90l tank will make it to the US. Likewise, I would expect sunroofs and rear seats to be standard; although it would be nice if we can get delete options. For the rest, most of the options follow a regular Carrera S: same paint options, Hi-Fi/Bose audio systems, LSD alone/LSD-PASM Sport and sports chrono. So bascially you get a Carrera S with a wider body, better wheels, upgraded interior and a very expensive engine option for a bargain price. I would not give up a GT3 for one, but it is a great deal especially if you want a more street oriented car than a GT3. In fact, I simply can not understand why you would not a GTS if you were looking at a regular Carrera S.

I am sure you can get full leather to replace those alcantara bits.

On the scales at Roebling Road my 10 GT3 weighed 3230 with a half tank of gas. Subtract round numbers of 60 lbs for fuel and my car weighs 3170, so 3140 is light. I am suspect at the weight though. Maybe no oil.

You can configure the cosmetics of the GTS (interior, wheels, paint) just like any other Carrera.
That is, if you can find a dealer with any available build-slots for one.

Not to rain on anyone's parade—but I saw a new German car magazine at a friends house last night that had an article on the new 991—and the car looks and sounds sensational.
It's a completely new car apparently—and much improved. (Completely new chassis, engine and interior.) Very few of the old parts carried over. The first comprehensive re-design of the water-cooled car.
So as cool as that GTS looks...there could be some buyers remorse when the 991 arrives.

My reason for wanting the GTS...
Glad the tone has gotten back to normal around here. I'm a newbie on Rennlist; I have always wanted a modern 911 but could never fit -- I'm 6'7" -- until the 997 came out. Even then, I felt like Porsche never quite made what I wanted. The GTS is almost exactly the 911 I've dreamed of. I want a car that I can push and occasionally take down the road to Sears Point, but I'd also like to be able to drive from San Francisco to Monterey, take my wife along, and have her enjoy the experience. I don't need a lot of things that don't impact performance, but GT3 is simply too harsh and bit over the top for my needs.
In a perfect world I'd get the 6-speed -- but after having 4 knee surgeries it will probably be the PDK for me. I want to keep this one awhile and I can't take the chance of getting the perfect ride -- only to have my knee issues escalate and make it unusable.
One bummer; my dealer called the factory rep on my behalf and the GTS will have the sunroof in the USA. This is frustrating, as I really need the headroom and don't care much for sunroofs in general. So, if I'm ever going to fit with a helmet on, I need to figure out a sound way to lower (or replace) the seat.
Does anyone here know if the sport buckets sit lower or have less padding, which might give me a touch more headroom?

Re: the sport buckets, the only set I've sat in was in a couple of Boxter Spyders and although my recollection was that they sat lower than the lowest setting on the sport or standard seats, I couldn't say for sure. Your rep could probably find out for sure as I'm certain there is a measurement on them somewhere.
