Same here. I would love a cross country drive, but would be more worried about charting a route where I could keep the RPM's and speeds varied (i.e. non-highway), than parking at night.

This is probably in poor taste BUT does anyone think that demand for this vehicle will outstrip supply meaning one could possibly order a GTS (as I have) then offer it for sale immediately upon receipt and make a profit? If my question offends anyone I do apologize but keep in mind I now have a beautiful 2009 Porsche Carrera white coupe that I'm really fond of.

Looks like we're both shifting towards GTS avatars...

Regarding a long cross-country break-in tour: isn't the ability to change RPM and throttle loading -- which can be partially achieved by frequently changing gears and making smaller, freeway appropriate changes in speed -- more important than actually varying speed?

Alternatively, I could exit the highway every ten miles or so to give me the actual up and down run through the gears...

Good question. It will be interesting to see what demand is like for the GTS, both now and down the road. On the one hand it's a parts-bin special. On the other, it happens to have exactly the combination of parts from the bin that I was looking for...

Every new P-car buyer signs a document pledging not to sell the vehicle within a certain amount of time - I forgot if it is 6-months or a year. I doubt the GTS will outstrip supply, in any case.

You neglected to mention that each pledge is signed with special pens, using the owner's own blood as ink...

Thanks to everyone here for all of the advice. After processing all the data and figuring out what works for me, I've locked down the specs on my GTS. I didn't get the S-PASM because the suspension is relatively easy to convert or improve down the road, plus I'm unsure (with our lousy CA roads) about the lower ride height and reduction in ride quality. I nuked the BOSE because I don't think it makes enough improvement, plus I wanted the extra luggage capacity. The PCCBs are a personal choice that works for me given my preference and usage patterns. I understand they're not for everyone, and -- when it comes to Yellow Caliper Prestige Syndrome -- I actually prefer the way the red calipers look on the white GTS. Something about the white paint and black trim makes the red calipers and red taillights look just right. Who knows -- I could end up being the first person in history to repaint my yellow calipers to red! Regardless, it should be built right around my birthday during the first week of December. Needless to say, I can't wait!

Indeed...well selected.

But got me thinking that one option that should be available...or perhaps stock...is to elect for the Metzger engine, inclusive its screaming banshee 8500rpm wail....

Now that would throw a twist....

Gravedgr, anyone...does anyone know what the standard interior option of "plastic parts painted in exterior color " represents? acaould it possibly mean the standard silver trim in the Carrera is painted. Door handles, trim strip, surround of PCM? Thanks, Ed

Quick question: Does the GTS sells at MSRP ? I mean that would be a tough one considering you can take out 10k out of pretty much any 997.2, no ?

No doubt the gts is a special car like the 996 40th anniversary but still ...

Every dealer I checked with quoted MSRP. Yes, that's a bit of bummer, but it's worth it for me as the equipment on the car is exactly what I wanted. I'm sure someone knows exactly, but how much do you save with the equipment on the GTS compared to a Carrera 2 S with the same equipment? I realize you can't make an exact comparison, since the GTS has the JLo butt...
