"How did drivers survive parking their Porsches before back up cameras existed???" This is simply luddite thinking. Might as well complain for that lost engine crank, drum brakes, am only radio. Its a tool that aids a benefit, not something you need often, but with many cases of small children getting hurt or damaging objects messing up your 911 why would you complain. I added one to my 911 after I installed my JVC Unit. Cost $20 and 1/2 hour of time, works like a charm.
As for the color match, I personally hate the Volcano Grey in my 997.1 and went with a black surround. May not match, but looks a lot better imho. Crutchfield made it plug an for just $25
MJ -that looks pretty nice, just not sure what you lose between that and the OEM function offhand. And if the backup camera set up is that inexpensive and does not involve a lot of effort to wire, etc. Then yes its a nice have, especially if ultimately part of the PCCM + package for the 997.
Come on Porsche, let’s start getting these PCCM+ available for 997.2 (and .1). CarPlay wireless or wired would be ideal, back up camera would be nice but not a deal breaker.
I want:
• 997 OEM physical look plastics/rubber/back-lighting.
• 997 OEM integrated functionality -> MF steering wheel integration, built-in mic integration, trip meter, tyre pressures, info etc etc
ª CarPlay wireless
• Rotary Volume **** + push to turn off.
• Input selection ****
• rear parking camera integration with sign your life away its not porsches fault if you back into something
optional for me is:
• front camera integration
I'm glad it's available, but I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy just yet. I've been dailying either a 987.1 or 997.1 and now 997.2 now for 10 years. Still have the 997.2 but just bought a new vehicle to daily and reserve the 911 for fun weekend duty. The new vehicle has CarPlay, which is VERY nice, but when I get back into my 911 I'm suddenly transported back to a calming environment free from button/mode/ding/dong/camera/yougetthepoint nuisances where I can just pay attention to the road. But then again, I miss life before cell phones too and I a believer that much of this tech is killing cars as we know and love them (weight, size, too much fiddly crap, obsolescence and future repairability), so there you go...

a 997 always talks to you, to a point you dont get bored to need carplay, sound system, need to check your phone etc. Thats the difference - youre not bored in 911 as you are in modern cars. You actually drive it. Fewer and fewer people get that today, the driving bit.

But having access to Maps would be much nicer!!! The rest I can do without since I have XM for music.
In addition, I have to say that I can barely hear people talking when I get phone calls and being able to send hands free texts wouldn’t be bad either.

Maybe on the maps...maybe once in a blue moon, but that's just the thing. How often am I going somewhere I don't know or can't get 95% there and figure the rest out? Within 85 miles of my house (the metro area) is plenty easy to study and then put the phone away and find. So what if there's a stumble or u-turn in the last 500 ft of the drive...
And for the other part about noise and BT calls, I do have BT in the 997 and haven't had a complaint yet about noise, but so F'in what if they do. If it's important enough, we can either deal with it or...I'm driving (!!!!!!!!!!!!) it can probably wait!!!!! That's the thing that is getting quickly forgotten these days...I can close that biz deal or figure out how many pounds of potatoes we need for dinner 5 minutes later in the parking lot..not a big deal. As the Germans said to me in 2000 when I was on a work assignment in Ingolstadt and asked about the lack of cupholders in modern German cars, 'these cars are for driving, not drinking'. Yeah that's pretty much it.
I’m not aware of any mainstream car manufacturer that has Wireless CarPlay in their cars. So I’d safely assume that it won’t be there. But the ability to reuse factory mic and gps would be very useful, in addition to all the other useless functions PCM2.1 had. Given that I’m already pampered with wireless CarPlay and multifunction controls, I don’t think I’ll be shopping for a replacement anytime soon..
Are you kidding? I have it in my 2019 A7 and several other manufacturers have it already as well.
@texass4 funny I grew up in Germany and yes, f the cup holders.
It’s pretty easy to get turned around in the Bay Area and I can live with that. Worst case scenario the car has its own map.
Not being able to hear my wife when she calls me while being on call because I have to go get our 2yo daughter in case she hurts herself in daycare... kinda sucks. No one’s complained about not hearing me. The car is really loud and I don’t hear them. Yes, I could pull over but then again, it’s 2020 almost 21 and I didn’t buy a 1972 air cooled car
Despite working from home at the moment, this is just a car that I’ll be dailying as well as using for fun so I’d be happy if Porsche releases something like the PCCM+ for the 997.2 and .1.
Side note, I could hear very well in my 718. Technology does get better over time and I don’t mean to be rude. We all want something slightly different out of the experience.
When you think about it the car already comes with PCM so it’s not all that much of a difference. Just a little more modern. Example, yesterday, I couldn’t even input the proper address because it didn’t exist back in 2012.
