the music quality part is not true at all in regards to carplay. apple's wireless carplay uses bluetooth for the initial handshake and then creates a point to point wifi connection. wifi can support full quality audio, there is no downgrade like when using bluetooth.

I have the PSE, so I wouldn't hear the difference anyway.

"CarPlay uses WiFi to steam from your phone but is limited to CD quality audio (16bit/44.1kHz); higher than Bluetooth quality where the mids and highs clip, and the bass isn't as strong. There are bandwidth issues with Bluetooth in general. It is well known. If you want the best audio quality for your system, you'd need to play music at 24bit/192kHz. That can only be achieved by using a wired USB connection. Only FLAC and ALAC files support this."
My 997.2 PCM 3.0 with Bose plays DVD audio discs.
If you have a Bose, or especially a Burmester, you can hear the difference.
But not at redline....

For our friends in Germany that have already received this, I'm curious if it came with installation instructions (I've already read the owners manual and FAQ online) to better understand some of the wiring harnesses and adaptors that are included with the kit. It would also be great to hear an update on the mic and if the mic included in the PCCM+ can be mounted in the factory location.

Was just watching the Friends Green PCCM+ live stream and there they said that Porsche confirmed back up camera compatibility. Should be interesting for some. They don’t know how it works yet, but showed a camera-not-connected screen popping up when putting the car in reverse.
Looks like you also get the individual memory options on cars without sport chrono.

WIFI ? BLUETOOTH ? Well, according to the video, it is all through a cable which is perfect for me. I have always praised the Porsche engineers for not allowing micro-waves in the cockpit of their products.

Some great features
- oem NAV app has info directed to the front instrument cluster - very cool to retain this!! I am guessing that this functionality will not work under carplay / AA via waze/google?
- HVAC stored memory controls - very cool!
- full oem pcm functionality being able to access core functionality without piwis / durametric / foxwell530
- bracket mounting system with the heat sink clearance to install the fibre optic box (i wish I had thought of this on the android unit i designed). this is very clean and well thought out.
- what looks to be proprietary 4 (fader control) channel fibreOptic adapter via direct PCM output via NON RCA outputs. First I've seen as all aftermarket fibreOptic adapters are 2 channel RCA input types. Keeping fader control is a first here
- Reverse camera support - the 997 pccm+ has decoded the reverse trigger signal via the canbus in the 997.1. This is a first time i've seen this done as the aftermarket canBus units have only been able to decode the reverse signal correctly for the 997.2. In the video, it looks like a Proprietary connector containing an reverse camera + power/ground will be released in due time. Based on the manual that was available 1/2 a year ago, there was no mention of reverse camera support so I suspect the camera was one of the reasons for the delay. Porsche being porsche will not allow any standard aftermarket RCA-connector AHD camera input it seems. I'm very happy to see it supported either way.
Overall they did a very good job. Better then I expected, my main gripe being that the screen could have been larger and higher resolution but this is overall imho is a wonderful product and will make many owners happy.
Having designed my own android unit for our cars there are many great things they did very well to ensure oem level of quality of product, installation, future upgradability, no oem features lost, even added features not available before.

If you poke around at Apple's own tech talk on CarPlay itself, page 56 states output is capped at 16bit/48kHz no matter wired or wireless.
Apple has since added lossless files to Apple Music, so that may be outdated, but in reality, 1) I doubt many people here have lossless libraries, 2) Can actually discern the difference or most of all, 3) Can discern the difference in their car going down the road. I don't know about the non turbo but my 997.1 TT had a pretty noisy cabin, so much so that I added sound deadening to the doors which helped dramatically.
I have an aftermarket wireless unit and the audio quality is great for never having to take your phone out of your pocket.

If you are right, it might be based on the success of the 996 PCCM+ and etc, so Porsche plans to split the 997.1 and 997.2. In that case, I would expect the PCCM+ for the 997.1 to come out in 2023. I know you guys know this but the 15 year limit is pretty standard for something to be considered "classic."
coming out Feb 2023….

There are 3 items I'd like to understand before installing one in my 997.1.
- Can we get USB from the back of the unit - this will allow for wireless Apple Carplay and also for the cable to be routed to the glove box or the central console area (no iPhone fits there today though but could start a USB cable from there)
- Can the microphone be mounted in the OEM position? What does that mean? Does the plastic casing of the microphone need to be disassembled? Seems there are videos out there that have done that with microphones being placed in that area and it's easy.
- Rear-view camera - understand the capability exists in the unit but you probably have to go with an aftermarket camera. Buying the Cayenne 2006 camera system for $1500+ does not make sense and the technology (camera resolution) would be inferior to PCCM Plus. Would love to see what high quality cameras would fit the description. I suspect we also need some beeping system/unit that comes with the camera, overlays the parking lanes and does the beeping.
