Woooow. I never even thought of leather wrapping the hub boot. I might have to do that on my ‘88.
really upgrades the momo wheel to match the rest of the interior in my opinion. Having such a large piece of plastic on the column bothered me so this was a great solution was a bit pricey but when you look at the work and craftsmanship you’ll understand. 99% of ppl will never notice it but I love it
991.2 heated carbon fiber multifunction on my 997.2. Prior had multifunction. Required new airbag, clock spring and controller. Total about $2000, $400 steering wheel, $500 airbag (leather), $120 clockspring, $400 controller. $300 coding, $350 gprs adapter. I did the install.
I'm thinking of having Dallas rewrap my sport steering wheel in my 997. Anyone have thoughts on if I go thicker or leave it the stock thickness? Anyone who has gone back and forth on thickness and liked one better than the other?

Thicker with contours is so nice. I really like the flat bottom too. Makes entry and exit easier and is a natural resting position for your hands when cruisig down the highway without your wrist being twisted in.
I did a wheel swap several days ago. My OEM 370 diameter 2011 C2S steering wheel for a Momo Prototipo 350 Heritage with distressed leather grip. My reason for the switch was that I felt like I needed the steering wheel 2-3 cm closer to me because I sort of have short T. rex arms. There was also something about the steering wheel that I didn't quite like though I can't put my finger on what it was. Was it too thin? Too large? Or simply too far away from me?
I preferred to keep the airbag, but the OEM GT steering wheels were so darn expensive, plus that wouldn't have solved the issue of needing the steering wheel closer to me. I read somewhere that an OEM steering column spacer kit was very expensive and very involved. Not sure how true that is, though.
Watched a lot of Youtube videos and read all that I could find on here, and it only took me a couple of hours to do. I took my time because I didn't want to mess it up and I wanted to be certain of each step so that if I ran into a problem, I'd be able to retrace my steps back to the OEM setup.
I used the Works Bell standard hub and a 20 mm Works Bell spacer (I ordered a 10, 15, and a 20 mm spacer with the intention of deciding which I preferred once I got the wheel on the hub). The Works Bell instructions are in Japanese. Google Translate does an ok job of putting it into English. Plugging in the horn and airbag resistor was confusing because the Japanese instructions say to plug the 6-pin connector into the 12-pin's top row and to have the horn wires to one side, while a youtube video shows a guy mounting a momo on a Works Bell hub with the horn wires off to the other side. The 6-pin would only fit the way the Youtuber did it and so far it seems to work fine.
The rest of the install was pretty simple. Here's the final result:
While I think the steering wheel position is a big improvement for me - I can now rest my left elbow on the door arm rest and reach the wheel with that hand, I'm not so sure about the smaller 350 diameter. I'm thinking that if I were driving primarily at 30-60 mph in the mountains or on continuous curvy roads then it might be ok, but I spend lots of time in the 50-90 mph range on the highway and on country roads and that smaller diameter makes the car feel a bit nervous. I do like having more room for my knees underneath the steering column and the easier entry and exit from the car. Maybe I will try a 360 or 370 Prototipo if I don't bond with this one.
Also, the Prototipo Heritage that I have is distressed smooth leather. I really did not like its feel at first because it felt dry and slippery so I started looking at a suede or alcantara replacement. But, after I rubbed in some Obenauf Heavy Duty LP, the leather surface now feels perfect.
