DCT Carbon

Perforated leather with carbon fiber. Flash makes it look odd in pictures, but gorgeous in person with the other CF accents in the car. Love it.

Wow, I'm only 4 hours from Dallas. The wife and I need to make a road trip and visit those guys.

This is a wheel I purchased from a fellow Rennlist member. It was advertised as a tech art style wheel. I love it.

My car came with the button style PDK wheel. I decided (like many) to get a paddle style wheel. But by the time I made the decision, the Cocoa versions were NLA from Porsche.

So I bought a used black Turbo PDK wheel ($500), and had it recovered in a dark brown Napa leather that was a dead ringer for my Cocoa interior. Also matched the stitching color to the beige stitching used on the dash. That doesn't really come out in the photo below, but it's quite nice in person. I'm lucky that DCTMS is local to me, so I could go in and see the various leather & thread samples in person - http://www.dctms.com/product_ST_PCH_997_2.html

I originally wanted the top-center-ring seen in the other wheels above, but DCTMS cautioned me that they couldn't guarantee to get it absolutely dead straight. And if that would bother you, it'd be best to avoid. Then we looked at the OEM Porsche wheel I'd bought, and sure enough the top-center-ring on the factory Turbo wheel wasn't actually dead straight/centered (you wouldn't notice until you looked for it, but once seen it'd be always there). So I went with a single piece for most of the wheel...

What extra thickness did you choose? I am between 1/16” and 1/8” on the same wheel. I want something that is similar to a BMW M wheel thickness.

To avoid some confusion... FYI - there are wheels from 2 different companies being shown in this thread.

DCT Carbon or DCT Motorsports (DCT or DCTMS) like mine who are out of CA
&
Dallas Custom Steering Wheels (DCS or DCSW) out of Texas

I'll PM you the price I actually paid. But in general it was on the low end of the range because I went the simple path:
.
  1. My wheel recover wasn't intricate, it only needed 2 separate pieces of leather to be joined together
    • Some of the other wheels above have up to 6 different pieces, and that increases the labor
  2. The leather I selected, while very nice and supple, was a relatively standard swath
    • No perforations, etc.
  3. By default their recovering adds some extra thickness, but I didn't add any extra on top of that as I'm personally not a fan of very thick rims. For example:
    • I find BMW M steering wheels too thick for my liking (poor tactility)
    • When I see someone holding those rims, they look like they have arthritis
  4. Kept the stitching to a single color
    • But matched to the thread color used on the dash
  5. Didn't have to futz with any core exchanges
    • Because it as a 2nd steering wheel for me, and I could leave it with him for a while
    • Turnaround time was about 4-6 weeks if I remember correctly...
  6. Paid in cash

If I went the complete other direction on some of the above, it could easily have doubled or tripled the price.

If you can, try to actually visit DCTMS' offices and see some of the wheels for yourself. It's a small operation (Ivan is the owner), so you'll need to make an appointment.

Karl.

DCTMS in California as well...
Love the thickness and grip of perforated leather. Alcantara segments match the other alcantara pieces in the car. Top 5 mods to my car.

I asked for the most padding. I too come from ///M steering wheels. This was important to me. I’m not good w/ measurements. The photo w/ the measurement is from Donald at Dallas Custom Steering Wheel.
