I changed my oil today ( 300v 5w 40 ) and Mezger engine ticks are more quiet, no change in oil pressure As a side note I have to ask why dose 300v smell so good ?

This helps not only with engine noise but also better power production and increased reliability. That’s some of their fundamental advantages.

The smell? Those are the esters. And since you’re asking, our ester package is called “Estercore” and is a proprietary blend of various esters and other synthetics base oils. We’re one of the very few mfr’s that use esters in a 4 stroke engine application- most don’t due to cost and small batch size. Did you know there are 5000 esters available so you can customize your oil for a specific purpose as opposed to just having a base oil and additives? Esters can be made up of many different things from mineral oils, animal fats and vegetable oils. Pretty cool stuff! -Nick
Are there any pros/cons regarding ester based oils and E85? Also, what is your opionion regarding the use of higher viscosity (>40) for us with higher mileage cars that are not driven below freezing temps?
Thanks

Hey Nick! Mr. Motul!!

You note that using 8100 X-cess 5W40 or 8100 X-max 0W40 will reduce oil consumption. So will these oils reduce consumption in my 2009 C2S w/ 144K miles over Mobil 1 0W-40? I use about 1 to 1.5 quarts per 5K miles. What can I realistically expect?

Peace

Took a look at the website, and it looks like 8100 X-Max is recommended for my 2009 C4S. When I went to the Find a dealer, however...it showed nothing around Atlanta. Anyone have any insights on where this would be purchased?

If I am running the “recommended” currently in my 997.1 and am not due for an oil change until next year, if my car uses oil between changes, can I top off with Motul 8100 xcess 5W40 prior to my next oil change or should I just wait until the oil change instead of mixing the two brands? Thx.

I'm using 8100 X-cess 5W40 and I'm almost at 2000 miles and haven't used any oil. 5W is thicker right? So I'm guessing that has something to do with it. I've been waiting to bring it up until I go the full 5k miles though

Default 997.2 DFI street use

Glad to have you here Nick.

I’ve been using 8100 X-cess 5w-40 in my 997.2 DFI motor and love how quiet it is and the fact that I burn nearly zero oil between 5000mi changes. My question is about competitors claims that it does not have enough Moly to adequately reduce the possibility of bore scoring (a highly over-hyped issue here). What are your thoughts.

On this topic, does Mobil 1 have enough Moly? Which oil is best when it comes to bore scoring? Bore scoring is what I fear most

Hey Nick! Mr Motul!

Another few questions: 0W vs 5W

What is the minimum ambient temps that would require 0W vs 5W? What is the min ambient temps for use of 5W? 0W?

I am considering driving my car to the North Pole. Keeping global warming out of the equation, what is your oil recommendation for Porsche-driving, grocery-getting at the North Pole?

Peace
