not sure about Iphone voice features I have it turned off and just hit the button on the phone when needed.
Coding required to enable the CD changer if you don't have one.

So who is the best supplier to purchase this from currently? I'm in NZ any idea if they ship overseas?
Is there a definitive answer for which set-ups/systems this won't work with?
Also, does anyone know if there is something similar for a 996/986?
Thanks,

Thank you to all on this thread. I was able to get my Mr. Volt installed and it was pretty much plug and play. I finally figured out the loop connector was in the box. Now I get BT phone and I have a 32gb micro-sd card with tons of music. I also have a USB stick too. I can listen to MSNBC and my podcast now with not problems. I simply Velcro the unit and the wires together and put behind the unit. Really brings your 997.1 into the 21st century. If I keep my 2001 BMW M5 I will put one in it but it's for sale now

Is the unit supplied with and always on 12 volt source?

Jayi836, I have the same frunk setup as you in my 2008 997TT (Bose, CD changer and Navigation). I was wondering if the following would work:
1. Disconnect the CD changer and connect both my fiber optic connection and the power connection from the CD changer to the LA power unit in the frunk itself, without doing any work inside the cab near the PCM.
2. Use a wireless 2.4 GHz mic/Lavalier (brand XIAOKOA) with the receiver portion plugging in to the LA Power in the frunk and the wireless mic transmitter attached to the driver sun visor.
This is setup would be entirely dependent on a strong Bluetooth signal from the frunk to the phone and a strong signal for the wireless mic from the frunk. It seems that this would greatly simplify the installation as well eliminate the running of wires from the frunk to the cab.
Thoughts?

I can't say if the LA Power will be as effective in the Frunk, the under glove box is a straight forward 60-90 min install. I have a CAB and took some searching on how to remove the Bose sub in the passenger foot well that pins the right side PCM panel in.
removing the 6-CD changer was PIA, but worth the added space.hidden bolt behind the amp and plastic trim (adds 1 hour)
Follow the fiber optic loop in the earlier posts. The kit is plug and play no need to take fiber optic connectors apart.
Tip:lock the PCM tabs before snapping it in.

Sounds like a Fiber optic intermittent issue, double check the connectors are snapped in (unlikely there not) could be a bad unit or kink in the fiber cable. The blower system had an motorized actuator right next to the passenger side 12 volt outlet check that the cables are clear.

Thanks jay. Based on what you have learned, in theory should my wireless approach work in the frunk if the signals are strong enough?
If not and I have to go the standard route, do I have to disassemble the glove box to mount behind the glove box? Can I avoid this if I mount the LA power unit behind the PCM, near the passenger 12v outlet as others have described?

I received my unit today and completed the install in about 30 minutes in the frunk. I have a very clean and super easy install that works perfectly, without having to do anything in the interior of the car, including routing the mic wire. My car had a six disc changer and navigation unit in the frunk. I simply replaced the six disc changer with the LA Power unit. The bluetooth connection to the phone works great and the wirelss mic works great too - no issues with connectivity or sound quality (yet - hope it stays this way).
Here are the steps I performed:
1. Remove the six-disc changer, but keep the side mounting bracket near the navigation unit in place (remove the screws instead of the whole bracket with a small right-angle screwdriver).
2. Disconnect the fiber optics and power from the CD changer.
3. Splice the power cables to provide the power to the LA Power unit (red to red (positive) and brown to black (negative))
4. Plug in the fiber optic from the CD changer directly into the LA Power Unit (you don't need any of the other fiber optic cables provided by LA Power).
5. Mount the LA Power unit onto the former CD changer mounting bracket with double sided tape. Tuck the power cables behind the bracker for a clean look.
6. Plug in the receiver for the wireless mic/lavalier into the mic port in the LA Power unit.
Here are some pictures of the wireless mic used as well as the final install:
Wireless lavalier prevents running hardwire mic through interior
Top view of LA Power unit in the place where the CD changer used to reside
Close up of LA Power unit, mounted onto the CD changer mounting bracket
Wireless 2.4 GHz Mic installed on visor
PCM from the inside with bluetooth playing from my phone
Finally a car with "modern" electronics
